Therefore, by monitoring the level of beta-hCG, you can assess the age of pregnancy and its course. Testing beta-hCG levels can also be used to identify imminent miscarriage.

It is also used in the prenatal diagnosis of fetal defects (in the triple test with alpha-phetoprotein and estriol).

Beta-hCG can be detected as early as 9-11. day after fertilization. Its concentration increases, initially doubling every 2 or 3 days. It reaches its maximum between days 40 and 90 (weeks 8-12). Then it decreases.

The norms of beta-hCG concentration depending on the duration of pregnancy are quite broad, so it is difficult to follow them with watchmaking precision in assessing the baby's age. However, when the concentration of beta-hCG is too low or high, it should be worrying:
