New technologies are primarily aimed at young people. It is related to a lot of miniaturization, which is devoted a lot of attention by designers. Meanwhile, older people, who will be more and more over the years, have considerable problems with using modern amenities. Fortunately, this is changing! The technology market for seniors is developing more and more dynamically and it is worth appreciating. Here are examples of interesting solutions just in time for people in the fall of life.

1. Telephones for seniors

Modern smartphones can be too difficult to use for seniors and too complicated. That is why devices aimed specifically at the elderly began to be created. They have larger keys (preferably backlit), better speakers (valuable in case of hearing problems), and the display - larger fonts.

If the phone is to be used only for basic activities without technological gadgets, such equipment for seniors will perfectly meet the expectations of an elderly person.

What else is important for such phones? First of all, a simple menu, long working time on a single charge, easy to save numbers in the phone book and their efficient and simple search.

2. Life Alert

Alarm System

Alarm systems for seniors - especially those living alone - are gaining more and more popularity. One of the most common in the West is the Life Alert.

In any emergency, such as a fall, attack of illness, fire or burglary, all you need to do is press one button. You can get emergency help very quickly, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

System operators collaborate with doctors, fire brigades, and can also communicate with friends or senior family. Additionally, the device is equipped with a carbon monoxide, fire and smoke detector.

3. Evermind system - monitoring of electrical devices

The Evermind system is a simple device that connects to an electrical outlet as an adapter, and to it - the selected electrical equipment.

The solution was created with seniors living alone in mind. It allows you to track the current activity of a given person at a distance - checks whether the equipment connected to it (e.g. TV, radio, coffee machine)is regularly turned on and off.

That is why Evermind should be adapted to the daily routine of a senior. The device does not need internet access at home, and sends notifications to the person concerned - usually someone from the family.

The cessation of activity in this case is an alarm signal. Of course, the device is not perfect and does not allow you to react immediately. Nevertheless, its advantage is the great simplicity and independent work without the interference of a senior.

4. Liftware spoon - for trembling hands

Many seniors suffer from arthritis or Parkinson's disease, and this causes severe hand tremors. As a result, there are difficulties in eating meals, and with them - a lot of frustration.

The Liftware spoon was created to minimize the effects of hand tremors by up to 70%. Sensors in the device detect hand tremors and properly stabilize the spoon - they eliminate shocks and maintain a constant level.

Thanks to this, the food does not spill or fall off the spoon. Liftware works for several days on a single charge, which is a great asset.

The creators of the system are also working on other utilities that would have similar functionalities.

5. MedMinder drug dispenser

Elderly people often have to take a lot of medications, which is sometimes quite a challenge - how to remember all of this?

Medication organizers are useful, for example, in which you can sort everything, but they are not perfect solutions, because they do not remind you of anything.

The MedMinder drug dispenser works a bit differently. There you can arrange medications in 28 compartments for 7 days. When it's time for a medication, the selected compartment starts flashing.

If it is not emptied on time, an acoustic signal will appear. The device can also send reminder notifications via SMS or email.

6. He alth Tracking Watches

Good examples of such devices are FitBit and Apple Watch. They are very easy to use and work with smartphones and tablets.

What do we gain by wearing them every day? First of all, constant monitoring of he alth and activity. This is important especially for people struggling with cardiovascular diseases. The devices measure, for example, the heart rate and blood pressure.

7. PixStar photo frame

Grandparents often like to see photos of their grandchildren. However, it takes both time and skill to print everything up-to-date or follow social media sites.

The PixStar photo frame works much easier. It is enough to program it (it can be done by grandchildren beforehand) so that it is connected with a given profile insocial media.

It can be configured with several profiles. Then, it displays everything that enters the site on an ongoing basis. This way, grandparents can easily watch their loved ones.

Simple PixStar device supports not only photos but also videos. Grandparents can also easily comment them on the touch screen.

PixStar works with the most popular social networks, including Facebook and Instagram.

8. EyeReader - magnifier in the phone

Vision problems affect many seniors. How to cope, for example, in a restaurant or at a bus stop, when the menu or timetable are in fine print and the light is weak?

A special application for iPhones - EyeReader, for example, will be useful. It is easy to use and operate. The image from the camera on the smartphone is enlarged on the screen and also illuminated (if necessary) with the LED lamp.

You also need to tap the image twice with your finger to save it. You can also adjust the zoom level as needed.

9. GPS monitoring

GPS technology allows you to keep track of where a person is. This is especially important for people with dementia who are temporarily or permanently left alone.

The interested person can therefore track the whereabouts of the senior. GPS devices for this purpose come in many forms. They can be attached to wrists, clothes or in the form of a smartphone application.

10. Cleaning robots

Automatic vacuum cleaning robots are offered by more and more household appliances manufacturers. These are wireless devices that must of course be charged beforehand.

It is worth choosing those that work on a single charge as long as possible. They vacuum and clean a variety of floors - hard, carpets and rugs.

In addition, they are equipped with special sensors that protect them against a collision with furniture or falling down stairs.

You can even plan the cleaning route yourself or start the device remotely so that it cleans the house before we return home.

No wonder then that cleaning robots are gaining popularity among people of all ages. Nevertheless, seniors can bring a particularly high relief when cleaning.

There are also robots on the market that clean floors, that is, working on the principle of an electric mop, as well as cleaning … windows! He has such equipment in hisoffer, e.g. the company Hobot.

11. Devices supporting putting on shoes and socks

Both activities are only apparently simple. They require strong bending and efficient hands, and this is not necessarily that easy for some seniors.

Hence the need for simple-to-use gadgets that will provide great help on a daily basis and allow you to act independently.

Good examples are the Carex Sock Aid with a long telescopic handle for putting on socks and the FootFunnel for shoes.

This second accessory works more easily than a shoe spoon - it prevents the shoes from bending under pressure and allows the foot to slide smoothly inside. It will also be useful for people with only one hand capable of doing it.

12. Electric Jar Opener

Weaker hand work, arthritis, Parkinson's disease - opening the jar becomes a big problem. That's why it's worth taking advantage of the appropriate amenities, such as an electric opener that can be operated only with a single button.

There are also special can openers for seniors on the market.
