- Physical therapy after COVID-19 is essential?
- Power molecule based on wit. B3
- Fuel for body and brain
COVID-19 is a systemic infection that affects the entire body. Therefore, it may take some time to recover from contracting the coronavirus infection. - Fortunately, we have developed methods of returning to full strength - informs Dr. Michał Chudzik, MD, a cardiologist, internist, creator of the "STOP-COVID" program.
It has been known for some time that the consequences of contracting COVID-19 can be serious. Some patients develop irreversible changes in the heart and lung fibrosis. 70 percent convalescents complain of fatigue, severe muscle pain and severe weakness within a few months of infection. The so-called brain fog.
- Patients complain that they do not remember basic information, e.g. the history teacher does not remember the date of the Battle of Grunwald during the lesson, and a plumber with 20 years of experience does not know how to install a tap. It sounds a bit humorous, but it is a professional paralysis - comments Michał Chudzik, MD, PhD, cardiologist, internist, lifestyle medicine specialist.
Physical therapy after COVID-19 is essential?
One of the experts' recommendations for people who have had COVID-19 is rehabilitation. In the case of convalescents, it must be adapted to the individual capabilities of the patient and proceed gradually. - Therefore, we determine in advance the degree of muscle fatigue, the general condition of the patient. However, exercise is only part of the whole process. I also encourage patients to diet, supplementation and to change their lifestyle - lists Dr. Michał Chudzik.

According to the expert, it is also worth supporting the body with a proper diet and supplementation. Dr. Michał Chudzik has investigated which preparations can have a positive effect on recovery after COVID-19. His interest was aroused by the 1-MNA molecule discovered by scientists from the Lodz University of Technology and the Medical University of Lodz. This molecule supports the proper functioning of the mucous membranes, protecting the body against bacteria and viruses, and has anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant properties. It occurs naturally in the human body - it is a metabolite of vitamin B3, because it is produced by the body converting this vitamin into niacin. 60 percent is converted into 1-MNA. niacin.
Dr. Michał Chudzik decided to give to convalescents1-MNA preparation to see if they recover faster after taking it. - Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, 1-MNA can improve exercise tolerance and reduce the feeling of fatigue in patients recovering from SARS-CoV-2 - explains Dr. Chudzik.
The expert divided the patients rehabilitated after COVID-19 into two groups: one administered a preparation with 1-MNA, the other - no. Both groups performed the recommended exercises. The former had their efficiency improved by 92% after six weeks, the latter - by 60%.
The mere consumption of foods rich in vitamin B3 will not, however, ensure the proper level of endogenous 1-MNA. - to take the recommended daily dose, i.e. 58 mg of MNA, you should consume about 1.8 kg of wakame algae or 2 kg of green tea leaves daily. It is unrealistic, therefore supplementation remains.

Diet should not be forgotten, however - changes in the menu will also support recovery after COVID-19. - Nutrition according to the current he alth pyramid and a dose of exercise is not only a way to recover after being infected with coronavirus, but also a he althy, long life. Let's also remember about the so-called a diet for immunity, which cannot lack silage, natural yoghurt and kefir - explains Dr. Chudzik. And he adds: - It is important not only what we eat, but also how we eat. Let's eat meals at the table, in good company, without rushing - he recommends.
For convalescents, even minimal activity is recommended - a walk around the estate or Nordic walking, every day, regardless of the weather.
It is also worth training your brain, e.g. by solving crosswords or sudoku. - As a lifestyle medicine enthusiast, I can see that mental and social activity significantly reduces the aging process. It is also a very good idea to combine physical activity with mental activity, i.e. plasticity of the brain. I mean, for example, a ballroom dance course, a game of tennis, and even movement games for popular consoles - the expert encourages.
