Firework burns - first aid

  1. Move the victim away from the source of the explosion and smoke.
  2. If the clothes catch fire, put them out. It is best to take off the burning clothing, pour water on the burning material, wrap the burning material in a blanket or knock him over to the ground and roll on it. Burning clothes should not under any circumstances be extinguished with a fire extinguisher or remove it if the material sticks to the skin.
  3. Assess the injuries - are they light or serious? Did the clothes stick to the burned skin? Does the victim show symptoms of shock after thermal burn: pale, sweaty skin, fast pulse, psychomotor agitation?
  4. If burned slightly, cool the burned area with water by pouring it over the burned surface for several minutes(direct the stream of water a few centimetersabove the burned area). The water should be clean and have a temperature of approx. 20 degrees C. In the case of severe or large-surface burns, cool the body with a damp, clean material, e.g. a soaked sheet. In the case of extensive and deep burns, do not pour water body with cold water.
  5. Remove jewelery from burned limbs as soon as possible, otherwise it will soon be prevented by swelling.
  6. Try to avoid touching the burned area. You can only cover them with special sterile or hydrogel dressings.
  7. If a firecracker torn or severed an arm, raise the bleeding limb above the level of the heart. You can put several layers of sterile gauze over the wound and wrap it with bandages. In case of violent bleeding, a tourniquet should be applied to the limb above the injured area (try to remember the time of wearing it, so that it can be given to paramedics later).
  8. If your eye has been injured and parts of a foreign body have entered it, you can rinse it with cool, clean water. In the case of eye injuries, it is of great importance to provide professional ophthalmological assistance quickly.
