You are taking your birth control pills and… you forgot one or more pills. First, think carefully about how much time has passed since you should take the hormone pill. Once you know, take action right away. Thanks to this, you will avoid unwanted pregnancy. How does contraception work after?

  • If you are less than 12 hours late in taking ahormone pill , swallow the forgotten pill as soon as possible and take the next one at the usual time.
  • When lateness is between 12 and 24 hours, what you do depends on which phase of the cycle you are in.
    - If in the 1st week of taking pills - swallow the forgottenhormone pill(even if it means taking two at once), for the next 7 days give up sex or take additional security(it can be globpka, condom or both).- in week 2 - take missed tablet and finish pack; no extra security is needed then
    - If it is the 3rd week - take the missed tablet, finish the pack and, without taking the 7-day break, start taking tablets from a new pack.
  • If you are more than 24 hours late, can't remember when you took it, or missed a few pills, contact your gynecologist so he can decide what to do. You can always stop taking the pills and wait for her period. It should start within 7 days (but this is not normal bleeding, but caused by a withdrawal of synthetic hormones). On the first day of your period, start swallowing the pills from the new pack. From the moment you stop taking your contraceptive pills until you start a new pack, you must either not have sex or use other contraceptive methods.
