Spending free time depends on age, we alth and social conditions. Some believe that we now have more free time than in the People's Republic of Poland. If so, how do we use holidays and which activities are the most popular?
Contrary to popular opinion, in the times of the People's Republic of Poland, we were able to devote less of our free timeto our family and rest, because we worked 6 days a week and only from time to time was a free Saturday . But it was also the case that most of the employed people could go on a two-week or even one-month vacation. Today it is not easy. Often, for financial reasons or for fear of losing a job, we agree to shorter and shorter holidays. However, we value free time more and - as research shows - we spend more and more to make it an attractive time.
How do we spend our free time? Leave depends on the possibility
The form of spending free time depends on many factors that researchers divide into external and internal. The first are the environment (topography, climate, building character, communication), patterns of behavior and habits. Internal factors are personality type, individual need for movement or contact with other people. How we spend our free time is also determined by he alth, physical fitness, age, gender, education, profession and, of course, financial situation. The patterns passed on by the family, peer group or friends play a significant role. Better educated people in their free time go to the cinema, theater, concerts or read their favorite books more often. They also play sports more often, go on trips.
On the other hand, lonely people, regardless of their level of education and economic status, are more likely to go to the cinema and to social meetings. Better-off people, especially young people, more and more often choose to go on shorter or longer journeys. The poorer spend their free time mostly on additional work or they limit themselves to walking with family and friends.
He alth and age are other factors influencing the forms of using free time. People who are sick or have difficulty moving will necessarily choose less active leisure. Young and fit, even if they do not have cash, they will choose a trip, play or walk.

We spend less time on our hobby than other Europeans
According to CBOS research, every third Pole declares that the amount of free time at his disposal has decreased in the last 5 years. At the same time, every fourth of us says the opposite. Professionally working people have the least time for themselves. Farmers and people running their own businesses admit that they have no free time at all. The respondents emphasized that they lack the most time for sleep, rest, family life, meeting cultural needs, socializing, cultivating relationships with loved ones and talking to children. Women spend 4.45 hours on housework and men 2.22 hours. Ladies have an average of 4.36 hours. free time, and gentlemen 5.25. In addition, research shows that the quality of women's free time is worse than that of men, because ladies have to stop their rest every now and then to take care of some domestic matter.
Compared to other Europeans, we spend less time on hobbies and more time on socializing. Naturally, the most socially active people are between the ages of 15 and 24. Interesting relationships between desires regarding the way of spending free time and reality were shown by the CBOS research from 2010.
Every third person watching TV in their free time would rather go to a pub, a disco, go on a trip outside the city, but they don't. What's more interesting, it is not always connected with the lack of money - more often with the habit of passive leisure. This phenomenon is also explained by the fact that watching TV can be combined with cooking dinner, ironing, talking to loved ones. Such leisure activities do not require any effort or planning.
How do we spend long weekends?
Research by Millward Brown SMG / KRC (May 2012) shows that Poles spend their free time outdoors. An inseparable element of long weekends is grilling, which has its supporters among 81 percent. Poles. Roasting sausages or meat on a fire is accompanied by drinking alcohol - most often beer, and less often stronger drinks. What else do we do during the barbecue? Sometimes we play with the children, we take photos, but we usually lie on deckchairs or in hammocks.
We prefer to learn new skills on vacation instead of watching TV
The group of young people who celebrate their free time and want to spend it away from everyday duties is growing systematically. Poles are increasingly removing TV sets from summer cottages and replacing them with interesting reading material. Another phenomenon is gaining new skills in your free time, improving yourself. And it's not aboutparticipation in courses or lectures, but simply watching the world.
Departure or leave home?
43 percent Poles admit that if they could, they would always go on holiday abroad. However, the reality is that 1 in 10 people choose to travel. Usually these are people with higher education and high earnings who can afford a longer absence from work.
But there are also staunch supporters of a holiday in the country. It is worth adding that many Poles are reluctant to take holidays. Often the reason is the lack of money for a trip, and a holiday spent at home is hardly an attractive holiday. In addition, in 2010, 1.2 million Poles took additional work during their vacation (GUS) to fill holes in the home budget.
Can we rest? Admittedly 81 percent. Poles know that vacation is for rest, not work, but still every fifth person is not able to take a break from work. This is for many reasons. Sometimes they are pressure from their superiors, and sometimes they are a personal desire to show an outstanding commitment in the life of the company.
Rest should last for at least 3 weeks
Among the employed, 23 percent would like a month's vacation. Unfortunately, it is an increasingly common practice among Poles to take advantage of a few days' rest, which gives little. According to psychologists and doctors, a rest that provides real regeneration of physical and mental strength should last 3 weeks. Well, dream a good thing.
ImportantLeisure activities
The CSO research shows that a statistical Pole allocates each day:
- 2 h 50 minutes for watching TV and reading the press;
- 1 hour 10 minutes for a social life;
- 23 min for a sport which we also consider a walk;
- 16 minutes for the implementation of hobbies and passions;
- 13 min for religious practice, volunteering.
