If you want to warm up the atmosphere in your bedroom, a little sun can help you with that. According to Israeli researchers at Tel Aviv University, short-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation from sunlight enhances romantic passion.

"Mild exposure to the sun or UV radiation strengthens sex drive and fuels passion," Dr. Carmit Levy, professor of biochemistry in human molecular genetics at Tel Aviv University.

Dr. Levy explains that the skin, when exposed to UV rays, produces a pigment that protects the skin from next radiation exposure and triggers the DNA repair mechanism.

When UV rays come into contact with the skin, they damage DNA in the skin cells. The DNA repair mechanism, which takes effect milliseconds after exposure to UV rays, is responsible for repairing damage.

A link has also been found between the repair mechanism and sex drive hormones.

A study by Dr. Levy subjected 32 college students to 20 minutes of UVB phototherapy. Participants' blood was drawn before and after exposure. They also completed questionnaires regarding their romantic behavior, passions and aggression.

After sun exposure, both men and women showed an increase in romantic behavior. In men, a higher level of aggression was also noted.

Both in men and women, an increase in the efficiency of metabolism and strengthening of the immune system were also observed.

Dr. Levy hopes her research will open the door to treatments for sex hormone-related conditions and endocrine disorders.

Dr.Jess O'Reilly, host of the podcast Sex with Dr. Jess, says numerous studies suggest that spending time outdoors is positively correlated with overall he alth - from mental he alth to memory and well-being to cardiovascular he alth.

"It follows that if your mood improves, positive gains can translate into your relationship and sex life. When you are in a good mood you are more likely to feel confident, which will translate into better communication and preparation for coping with stress and conflict - all of it isgood for the relationship, "said Dr. O'Reilly.
