Male fertility tests check if male fertility is caused by sperm problems. Some of these can be done at home, avoiding an embarrassing visit to a doctor for many men. What are fertility tests for men? How to make them?

Fertility tests for menare tests carried out on a semen sample to determine if a man is capable of impregnating a woman.

Depending on the typemale fertility test , semen is checked only in terms of sperm count or additionally its quality is determined - what is its structure and whether it is mobile.

If attempts at fertilization for at least one year are unsuccessful, the man and his partner should undergo fertility diagnosis. The decision to conduct the examination should not be delayed, as the passage of time only works to the disadvantage.

Male fertility test - when to do?

The fertility test can be performed not only in the case of suspected infertility, but also before trying for a baby. The fertility test should also be performed after vasectomy. If a man decides to use this form of contraception, the test should confirm the effectiveness of the procedure.

Male fertility test - how to prepare?

Before a man undergoes a fertility test, a few days before the test, he should follow a few rules:

  • abstain from intercourse and masturbation
  • do not use stimulants that weaken the quality of semen, e.g. cigarettes or alcohol
  • avoid tight underwear and pants
  • do not allow genitals to overheat

You have to remember that any disease and medications you take may distort the fertility test result. So if the man is ill or undergoing treatment, the examination should be postponed.

Fertility test for men - home and in the laboratory

There are two ways to perform a male fertility test. You can visit an appropriate laboratory, such as a fertility clinic, or have a home test using a pharmacy test.

Home fertility tests for menis a very convenient form of testing, especially for men who are embarrassed by visiting a doctor. A home fertility test for men is available without a prescription and costs about PLN 200. It is a set consisting of: a semen container, testing solutions, a dropper and a tester. Two tests are included in the package so that you can run the test again. This is necessary for the validation of the result.

The home test result cannot be interpreted as final by the man. It has to be confirmed in laboratory tests.

To test, put the semen in a container and shake it to mix the sperm well. Then a small amount of semen is applied to the test plate and the test solutions are dropped on it. Usually after a few minutes you can read the result.

The sperm changes its color under the influence of the test solutions. The more sperm there are, the darker the color of the semen will be. Place the color card (included in the kit) against the tester and compare the color. Each color is given an estimate of the amount of sperm.

The result of the home test cannot be interpreted by the man as final, i.e. if the result is positive, it does not necessarily mean that the man is fertile. It must be confirmed in laboratory tests.

During testing in the laboratory, sperm is analyzed not only in terms of sperm count, but also in terms of its quality. The structure of the sperm is checked, as well as their mobility. Consequently, the semen test(seminogram)in the laboratory is one test that can confirm whether a man is fertile.
