14 weeks pregnant: how is your baby developing?

As the placenta develops, the baby's growth rate accelerates significantly. Now the fetus is 80-90 mm and weighs 25 g.

The placenta provides your baby with both oxygen and nutrients that are essential for his proper development.

  • the baby's nervous system starts to work
  • the baby's sexual organs are finally formed: girls have the vagina, uterus and ovaries, boys have testicles
  • the torso grows, which means that the head no longer dominates the child's appearance
  • the thin skin is translucent, but there is a denser and denser fluff regulating the child's body temperature;
  • sensory cells are formed on the body, but the head is still not sensitive to touch - during childbirth it will be the part most at risk of injuries
  • the fetus begins to train those parts of the body that it will need to breathe one day, i.e. it inhales and exhales the amniotic fluid. Now he constantly uses the oxygen supplied to him from the placenta through the umbilical cord.

The umbilical cord is a rope in which there are veins supplying valuable substances and carrying waste products away. This is a brilliant mechanism by which the baby's blood does not mix with that of the mother.

The umbilical cord lengthens with the development of pregnancy and is surrounded by a special substance, the so-called Wharton Jelly, which protects it and gives it elasticity.

14 weeks pregnant: what's going on with you?

14. week of pregnancy is the moment when the first and most difficult stage of pregnancy ends.

It is at the beginning of 9 months that women experience the most symptoms, such as nausea, weakness, malaise.

In the 14th week of pregnancy, these unpleasant symptoms finally disappear, and in addition, the body provides you with a huge dose of energy, thanks to whichyou are reborn after three difficult months.

This doesn't mean you will start running marathons or moving furniture, but you will definitely find the strength and willingness to go on excursions, visit the pool, and have sex that will finally start to please you.

You are now 14 weeks old, so you have started the 4th month and the 2nd trimester of pregnancy

The fact that you feel better can also be seen in your appearance. The skin is radiant - now the body has the highest blood flow, which is why the skin is pink and well nourished.

The same goes for your hair. Some women, however, complain of increased sebum secretion at this time, which causes the hairstyle to greasy faster and the skin to sweat more.

In 14 weeks of pregnancy, your uterus rises a little, which means it no longer compresses your bladder. Thanks to this, you do not have to run to the bathroom so often. This is another nice sign that you have entered the 2nd trimester.

Unfortunately, this period also has its downsides, albeit minor ones: you will probably notice that you now have a stronger vaginal discharge, whitish, with a rather intense odor.

This is a typical symptom caused by the hormones already preparing the birth canal for labor: vaginal discharge nourishes the tissues, helps them stretch and make them more flexible.

If you haven't had time to do the PAPP-A double test, you can still do the so-called triple test. This is a non-invasive test, i.e. one that requires only the mother's blood sample.

They are taken between 14 and 20 weeks of pregnancy to calculate your risk of genetic diseases such as Down's, Edwards, and Patau's syndromes, as well as neural tube defects.

You can also decide on other prenatal tests, which are assessed by the so-called free fetal DNA present in the blood of a woman, e.g. NIFTY tests (performed between 10 and 24 weeks of pregnancy and determining the risk of Down's, Edwards and Patau's syndromes and other birth defects).

In the 14th week of pregnancy, think about whether you should inform your employer about your condition - unless it's alreadyyou did.

This is a good time to slowly distribute your duties to other colleagues, it is also necessary if you have a hard, e.g. physical job - the employer has to change the scope of your duties if they somehow threaten your pregnancy.
