Inflammatory bowel disease is a group of medical conditions with very different causes. Most often, bacterial inflammation occurs in the intestines, e.g. pharaoh's revenge, i.e. travelers' diarrhea, although it can also be caused by a variety of toxins. Find out what the causes of enteritis are.
Intestinal inflammationcan be categorized by location:
- colitis
- inflammation of the small intestine
and at the time of development and intensity of symptoms
- acute enteritis
- chronic enteritis
However, they are most often divided due tocausestriggering inflammation, i.e. infectious and toxic.
There are also inflammatory bowel diseases, the cause of which is unknown.
Inflammation of the intestine: symptoms
Although inflammation of the intestine can affect different parts of the intestine (enterocolitis, colitis, colitis, etc.) and have very different origins, some symptoms repeat in each of these cases. They are:
- stomach pains
- diarrhea
- nausea
- vomiting
- low-grade fever and even fever
- chills
As the disease progresses, absorption is impaired, and the resulting deficiencies of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients lead to a significant weakening of the body.
Infectious enteritis
Infectious enteritis is caused by a variety of microorganisms.
- viral enteritis- most often caused by:
- rotaviruses (rotavirus gastroenteritis) - adenoviruses- noroviruses- astroviruses
- bacterial enteritis- most often caused by:
- Escherichia coli ( so-called travelers' diarrhea or pharaoh's revenge )- Salmonella typhi(typhoid fever)- Salmonella(salmonellosis)- Shigella(bacterial dysentery)- Vibrio cholerae( cholera)- Staphylococcus aureus(staphylococcal inflammation)- Corynebacterium
- fungal enteritis- most often caused by:
- Candida albicans yeast
Toxic enteritis
Toxicenteritis is a reaction of the intestinal mucosa to toxic factors, e.g.
- botulism causing botulism
However, the most common cause of toxic enteritis is one of the plant protection chemicals (pesticides) that are used, for example, to "accelerate" the growth of early vegetables.
Another cause of acute inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract may be fungal poisoning, such as toadstool or staphylococcal toxin, which are produced in the human intestine after eating food contaminated with staphylococci.
IBD
IBD is a group of chronic inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, mainly of the large or small intestine, with an autoimmune background. The most common diseases in this group are:
- Crohn's disease
- ulcerative colitis
Their causes are not fully known.
