Skating backwards and a cross trainer are technically difficult parts, but if you feel comfortable on the rink and move forward easily, learning will be easy for you. Watch the videos where the instructor Renata Aleksander from the Ice & Fun school explains in detail and shows how to skate backwards and with a wheel.

Skating backwardsandgearare the next important technical elements that should be master every skater. Although they are not necessary to navigate the ice rink, it is worth knowing them, because they add variety to the ride and allow easier maneuvering.

A particularly useful skill is wheel driving, as turning this way is more dynamic and faster.

Watch the videos in which the instructor Renata Aleksander from Ice & Fun school shows you how to learn step by step to skate backwards and cross-over.

Skating backwards

Start from the correct position: bend your knees slightly, extend your arms to the sides. Place your feet in the opposite direction to driving forward - connect the tips of the skates at an angle of 45 degrees, heels away from each other. To move back, shift your weight to the push leg. Pushing yourself away from the ice rink, smoothly shift your weight onto the skate in the back, straighten your other leg and lift it up. Then deliver and change side.

A common beginner mistake is leaning too far forward, so the emphasis is on the front of the foot and the skates brake instead of riding. So remember not to lean over too much and keep your weight in the middle of your feet.

Driving the gear wheel forward on the wheel

In learning this skill, the correct starting position is very important: bend your knees and bring them closer to each other, place the skates parallel, put your hands to the sides so that they define a circle around which you will turn in a medley. Remember that your hips should be parallel to the skates (not to your shoulders!).

To move forward, push off the glass with your outside leg and smoothly shift your weight onto your inside, moving leg. To make an interlacing, put the outer leg in front of the riding leg and the one that was left behind, straighten it and hold it up for a moment. Then the supplies run smoothly toskates. Repeat the whole cycle from the beginning.

When going left, only shift the right skate forward, while going right - shift the left skate. Train to drive the gear shifter evenly on both sides.
