Longboard is a type of skateboard that is much longer than the original and maximally narrowed at the wheels. The dimensions of the longboard range from approx. 70 cm to approx. 130 cm.
The speed record set on a longboard is around 130 km / h, and this was achieved by Mischo Erban in 2012.
Longboard was established in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Initially, it was intended to be used by surfers for off-season training when they cannot swim on the water. Hence the shape of the longboard, which resembles a surfboard and, thanks to its aerodynamic structure, allows you to reach very high speeds.
How to ride a longboard?
In order to master the technique of longboarding, we need to take care of a few basic steps to ensure safe movement.
At the beginning, it is worth focusing on exercises to improve your balance. To do this, you need to practice just keeping your balance while standing on a skateboard. Once we have mastered the right position, all we need to do is start pushing ourselves off the ground with one foot, just like on a standard board. Legs should be slightly bent at the knees.
To turn, we must bend in the opposite direction to the turn. Braking while riding a longboard is performed by touching the ground with your free foot. You can alsojumping off the board, but it is quite a risky and somewhat dangerous technique, because the rushing board can hurt someone. A much safer braking technique is sliding, i.e. pushing the board to the side, and carving, which involves slaloming the board, thanks to which it loses speed.
