Even the best bike can break down. We can remove many faults ourselves, on the way. However, there are also those that require a visit to the website. Here are some proven ways to deal with a bike crash.

A breakdown happens at the most unexpected moment. A flat tire and inner tube are by far the most common. It is worth learning a few methods to fix the most popular faults.

How to fix a punctured inner tube on a bike?

Always carry a patch and glue with you. All it takes is a moment of inattention, hitting a sharp stone, a protruding root and you can puncture a tire or an inner tube. Repairing the inner tube yourself is not difficult as long as you know how to remove the inner tube from the tire. We can plug small holes. In case of significant damage, the inner tube will have to be simply replaced. Finally, put the inner tube with the tire on the rim and pump it. What if we don't have a spare inner tube or tire with us? Expert bikes advise you to remove the damaged inner tube and push the tire out with a large amount of grass. This will allow us to get to your home or service that will professionally deal with the repair.

What to do when the chain comes off?

Another popular failure is related to a chain that may come off or break. In the first case, it is enough to put it on yourself. It is not difficult. However, its breakup is definitely a more serious situation. - Some chains can be repaired by yourself by shortening them and connecting them with special chain clips. If this does not help, you have to rely on a service that will carry out a comprehensive repair - says Jakub Pasikowski, an expert of the Le Grand brand.

Shift fault

Most bikes on the market usually have two gears - front and rear. As a rule, the front one practically does not break down at all. Faults reach the rear gears much more often.

It also happens that the shifting hook breaks off. In such a situation, it will most often be necessary to replace the entire element. However, if we do not have a spare hook with us (we do not take such an additional accessory for everyday city driving), you will have to unscrew the derailleur hanger, shorten the chain and change the bike to single speed. It is best to replace the entire element at a bicycle service point.

Spoke damage

Riding onbicycle, we can also deal with spoke damage. While the loss of one spoke is not a big problem yet, depriving the wheel of more spokes will make further driving dangerous. You will need a centering wrench for repair. It is enough to loosen the two spokes that are adjacent to the one that has broken off. This way, we will get to the site where we will be able to repair the bike.

Brake failure

Breakdown of the brakes can be very dangerous, especially when two of them break simultaneously. So it's worth checking their efficiency before each ride. It is best to accelerate the bike to a low speed and check their operation. If you find that they are not very effective, you will most likely need to tighten the brake cable. We'll have more trouble if the line breaks off. After all, we rarely carry a spare with us. In this case, you will also have to take the bike directly to the repair shop.

We will reduce the risk of failure if we take care of the two-wheeler and regularly service it. So it's worth checking regularly in specialized facilities, and before each longer trip, check that everything is in order.
