Itching of the edges of the eyelids, a feeling of dryness and sometimes burning eyes, recurring chalazions, barley, and even the feeling that something is piercing the skin of the eyelids - these are all the effects of demodicosis. The disease it causes - demodicosis or demodicosis - is often confused with other eye or skin conditions, as well as with allergies. How to heal from it?
Dr. Mariusz Rowiński, an expert and specialist who treats demodicosis patients of the Eye Laser Eye Microsurgery Center in Warsaw, told "Poradnik Zdrowie" about the parasite and the disease it causes.
Demodex treatment
Doctor Mariusz Rowiński, when asked about the treatment of demodicosis, described it in the following words:
The basis of treatment is the use of preparations containing Terpinen-4-ol. It is a terpene extracted from tea tree oil that is deadly for Demodex. The problem with treating Demodex is that we only have the ability to act against adults. The life cycle of Demodex is 18 to 23 days. Adult, active form is only 60 hours of this time. Only in the form that leaves the hair follicle and is present on the eyelashes, we can use preparations that are killer. Demodex is a nocturnal animal. He lowers the bellows when we sleep. Our actions, consisting in specific hygiene applied in the evening before bedtime and in the morning, will only affect these forms, they have left the bellows. Once the substance has evaporated, those forms that leave the follicle while we are asleep deeply will continue to reproduce. Therefore, treating Demodex is a process spread over time. There is no cure in six weeks. If we have advanced demodicosis, the treatment process will take over six months.
