Acidosis can be respiratory or metabolic (lactate and ketone). Acidosis occurs when a disease process damages any of the organs involved in the excretion of toxins, such as the lungs and kidneys. Excess acid builds up in the tissues and the blood pH rises. A properly balanced diet helps to treat acidosis. What are the symptoms of acidosis?

Acidosisis a state of increased acidity in the blood when the blood pH drops below 7.35. Acidosis can be caused by an increase in the concentration of acids (which are waste products) and / or a decrease in the concentration of bases (supplied with food). We say that acidosis isbalancedwhen the body does not allow the blood pH to drop below 6.8, and that it isunbalancedwhen regulatory mechanisms fail and the pH of the blood drops below 6.8.

Acidosis - pH level in the body

The human body is 60-70 percent water. It is there that all chemical and biological processes take place, and the ingredients necessary for these processes are dissolved in it. One of the features of the aquatic environment is its pH, i.e. acid-base reaction.

The higher the pH value, the more alkaline the reaction is. There are many body fluids in our body, and each requires a different pH value to do its job well. For example, pancreatic secretions have a pH of 7.5-8.8, and gastric juice only 2.5.

However, to simplify it, it can be said that man is essentially principle-loving. And if our pH began to drop, i.e. to turn acidic, it would have serious consequences, including life-threatening consequences. Therefore, in intensive care units, one of the tests of the patient's condition is to determine the pH of the blood. Its drop means an emergency situation.

Fortunately, our body has a security system, for example, the lungs are able to excrete a lot of carbon dioxide, which allows you to eliminate excess acids. The kidneys play a similar role. The blood and plasma buffer systems are the most precise devices for controlling the pH level.

These are chemicals (blood proteins, phosphates and carbonates) that react with acids like bases and with bases like acids. It would seem, then, that thanks to such perfect biological regulatory systems, acidification is not a threat to us. And yet …

Kwasica - what is it?

Acidosis is a state of increased acidity in the blood. The problem may arise when the disease process damages any of the organs involved in the excretion of toxins, such as the lungs and kidneys, and they start to function poorly. Then the excess of acids is deposited in the tissues and we are dealing with acidosis.

It is open, because it is reflected in blood pH measurements. But there is also another danger. The organs that fulfill their role well are overexploited and cannot fully control the acid-base balance.

Acidification is slight, but it puts a strain on the blood's buffer mechanisms. This is calledlatent acidosis , which can cause many secret diseases.

Kwasica - effects

Minerals are released from the bones to support the blood's buffer system. Acids become neutralized, but we pay for it with the slow development of … osteoporosis.

The structure of the cartilage is disturbed and, as a result, the risk of joint degeneration increases. And as a result of the increase in uric acid concentration, gout (gout) appears, a disease that manifests itself in severe pain in the joints.

The consequence of latent acidosis is also diabetes, arterial hypertension, impaired kidney function and the development of kidney stones, abnormalities in the functioning of the immune system.

Disturbances of the acid-base balance are often accompanied by hunger, fatigue, apathy, deterioration of the skin condition, increased hair loss, nail brittleness, excessive sweating. They can also be suspected in people who suffer from headaches, joint or muscle aches.

Kwasica - causes

It turns out that mother nature, who created so many complex defense mechanisms, did not foresee that the biggest problem would be the man himself. The lifestyle we lead can significantly increase the acidity of the organism.

  • First of all - diet is important. The risk comes when we eat too much animal protein. But butter, cheese, sweets, alcohol, eggs and coffee are also acid generating. These products increase the level of acids in the body that must be neutralized. If we eat this way over the years, the body is getting worse at neutralizing them.
  • Secondly - we are harmed by stress, which causes an increase in the level of adrenaline and cortisol - hormones that enhance acid-generating reactions. The situation worsens if we smoke cigarettes. Nicotine incl. stimulates the production of gastrin which stimulates the production of stomach acids.
  • Third - little physical activity is to blame. The daily dose of exercise makes the transformation processesof matter in the muscle tissue run at a faster pace, and therefore it is better to burn fatty acids and other acidic compounds.

Kwasica - what to eat and what to avoid?

Some products are acid-forming, others are alkaline. And it's not about their taste or the presence of acid substances. Acid-forming food does not have to be acidic, but undergoing metabolic processes in the human body, it produces a lot of acids.

This group includes:

  • meat,
  • poultry,
  • cold cuts,
  • cheese,
  • butter,
  • animal fats,
  • eggs,
  • sweets,
  • flour,
  • rice,
  • barley,
  • potatoes,
  • alcohol,
  • coffee.

On the other hand, sour citrus after digestion has an alkalizing effect. Alkaline-forming properties are found in most vegetables and fruits.

Particularly active in neutralizing acids are:

  • beetroot,
  • lettuce,
  • apples,
  • celery,
  • bananas
  • and melons.

The acid-base balance will be preserved in the body if, for example, bread is eaten with lettuce, watercress, parsley or tomato, and the meat is obligatory with vegetables - cooked and raw.

Kwasica - a balanced diet

One of the most important causes of imbalance is an improperly balanced diet. As some products are acidic and some alkaline, you should take care of their proportions in meals. It is believed that 80 percent of the food consumed should have an alkaline effect.

Alkalizing products include vegetables and fruits, as well as most dairy products. On the other hand, proteins, starch and fats are acidic.

  • Alkaline diet: which products deacidify the body?
  • Alkaline diet - breakfast in an alkaline diet
  • Alkaline diet - dinner in an alkaline diet
  • Alkaline diet - lunch in an alkaline diet

Acidosis - restoring acid-base balance

Maintaining an alkalizing diet may be too difficult for some people. Then it is worth helping with alkaline preparations, for example Dr. Auer's Alkaline Powder, Basanta. They contain substances that restore and maintain the acid-base balance.

Although sour in taste, they have alkalizing properties. They are also a source of vitamins. But this only applies to freshly squeezed juices. We recommend apple, grapefruit and… watermelon and melon. The latter is made by throwing pieces of fruit with peel and stones into the juicer.

In order for the body to neutralize more easily and excrete acids, you need to drink plenty of water. Byactivate the kidneys, it is worth drinking approx. 1 liter of non-carbonated mineral water with a low sodium content by noon.

During the day, drink one or two glasses between meals. The organism strives to maintain the optimal, from the point of view of the correctness of biological processes, pH level, i.e. the proper concentration of acidic and alkaline substances. It is different for different body fluids:

  • blood: 7.37-7.43
  • urine: 6.2
  • seed: 7.8-8.2
  • gastric juice: 2.5
  • saliva: 7.2-7.5
  • vaginal discharge: 4.0-4.7
  • pancreatic discharge: 7.5-8.8
  • yellow: 7.5-8.8

When using a mixed diet, urine is slightly acidic, in vegetarians - neutral, in people who eat a lot of meat - sour.

Acidosis - prevention

To avoid the risk of many diseases caused by the increase in the level of acids in the body, use the following rules on a daily basis:

  • Eat as little pork as possible, very little fat, little sugar. Food should be chewed carefully in the mouth.
  • Eat vegetables and fruits that have alkalizing properties every day.
  • Avoid excessive consumption of alcohol and coffee.
  • Quit smoking and avoid smoking.
  • Get a moderate amount of exercise every day. Better a long walk than a short one.
  • Control stress, use relaxation techniques, relax in the air.
  • Drink a minimum of 2 liters of non-carbonated, low-sodium mineral water.
