The higher the pH value, the more alkaline the reaction is. There are many body fluids in our body, and each requires a different pH value to do its job well. For example, pancreatic secretions have a pH of 7.5-8.8, and gastric juice only 2.5.

However, to simplify it, it can be said that man is essentially principle-loving. And if our pH began to drop, i.e. to turn acidic, it would have serious consequences, including life-threatening consequences. Therefore, in intensive care units, one of the tests of the patient's condition is to determine the pH of the blood. Its drop means an emergency situation.

Fortunately, our body has a security system, for example, the lungs are able to excrete a lot of carbon dioxide, which allows you to eliminate excess acids. The kidneys play a similar role. The blood and plasma buffer systems are the most precise devices for controlling the pH level.

These are chemicals (blood proteins, phosphates and carbonates) that react with acids like bases and with bases like acids. It would seem, then, that thanks to such perfect biological regulatory systems, acidification is not a threat to us. And yet …
