We live longer and longer, and in addition in better he alth. It is no wonder then that the subject of the "second youth", that is, the flourishing in the autumn of life, we can know from our own observations. But it has been explored in the cinema for a long time. This is evidenced by the films that can be found in the following - author's - list. They break stereotypes related to old age, and also provide many emotions - mainly positive.

Hotel Marigold (2011)

A group of retired English people go on a big vacation to India. Ultimately, they are to be in a luxury hotel, which is to sweeten their autumn lives and provide them with pleasant sensations. Meanwhile, there is … a ruin waiting for them.

So they decide to take care of this place themselves, and at the same time they become more and more attached to it. The heroes also bring with them various unresolved issues, including ancient loves. In India, they discover a second youth, fight their own xenophobia, and even accept their different sexual orientation.

The movie is a very pleasant comedy, warm, full of charm. His great advantage is also an excellent cast (including Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy). The production has been continued ("Drugi Hotel Marigold", 2015). It can be considered a sweet praise of life - regardless of the age of the participants.

Better late than later (2003)

Is real, crazy love possible after the age of 60? The creators of the film, which in an interesting way breaks the template of a romantic comedy, prove that they do. Jack Nicholson plays the role of an elderly seducer who, however, is only interested in ladies under thirty. The situation changes when he meets the mother of one of his passing loves - Erica (played by the great Diana Keaton).

And then you can guess - they fall in love with each other, experience a lot of joy, accompanied by a solid dose of humor. On the plus side, you have to include the excellent acting of the lead roles.

Second Youth (1938)

Speaking of the second youth, it is difficult to ignore the Polish pre-war production with just such a title. The script for the drama was based on the play "Maman Colibri" by Henri Bataile.

The main character, Irena (Maria Gorczyńska), has been married for 25 years. But she doesn't feel happy or fulfilled because her husband neglects her badly. One day he meetsJerzy (Witold Zacharewicz), a friend of her adult son Ryszard. Jerzy falls in love with her without memory (at first he thinks it is Ryszard's sister, who announces his mother as a joke).

Irena, thirsty for a second youth and love, reciprocates the feeling. They go to Zakopane together, where they have wonderful moments together. Unfortunately, a young Tamara (Tamara Wiszniewska) appears on the horizon, disturbing the heavenly time … A film definitely for lovers of old cinema - very sentimental and not too optimistic. However, it is worth seeing it at least once.

Though time is chasing us (2007)

Is a comedy about … dying possible? It turns out that it is, although of course it has dramatic threads. This is what the film "Although time is chasing us" tells about it.

In the face of death, the fates of two men from completely different worlds are intertwined. Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson) is a billionaire and Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman) a middle class mechanic. They meet in the operating room and under similar circumstances - both receive a fatal he alth diagnosis. In this situation, they decide to do everything they ever dreamed of, as well as get to know themselves best and make the most of the time remaining.

They go on a crazy journey together, during which they draw from life to the full, learn it, and above all - friendship. The prospect of a near end still lingers over their adventures, but the film gives food for thought. It is never too late to dream and the time remaining - which may be short - should be put to the best possible use.

Trip to Bountiful (1985)

Interesting film about stubbornness, returning to the best memories of your life and searching for joy in old age. The action takes place in the 1940s in Texas. The main character, Carrie Watts (Oscar-winning Geraldine Page) lives with her despotic daughter-in-law and her dominated son. However, she dreams of returning to Bountiful, the town where she spent her youth and the best moments of her life.

The family is not very willing to agree to this trip. Therefore, Carrie decides to do it on her own and … runs away from home. The journey is not easy and requires a lot of fortitude, but the senior lady does not give up. On the way, her family catches her, but Carrie is so determined that she finally reaches her destination. And what he finds there and how the story ends - we leave it for a look!

Harold and Maude (1971)

A black comedy, an unusual film, at times close to kitsch, but with an unusual approach to intergenerational relations. The plot is the story of an unusual "couple". It is made up of a 20-year-oldHarold, who is fascinated by death, and 79-year-old Maude, who tries to instill in the young man the joy of life and love for the beauty of the world ( although she herself often goes to funerals …).

This alone could only lead to many comedy, original solutions. Harold rejected the option of getting married three times (simulating suicide in front of the candidates), which drives his mother to despair.

In return, she has a great desire to marry … a life-loving, optimistic 79-year-old girl. However, she has a surprise for him - in the atmosphere of a black comedy. We do not reveal the finale, but we assure you that it is intriguing!

Kapuśniaczek (1981)

A seemingly light French comedy full of unrefined jokes, but underneath - a bit of a sad tale about old age. The two main characters, Claude Ratinier (Louis de Funès) and Francis Chérasse (Jean Carmet), known as Krzywus because of his solid hump, live peacefully in retirement in Durnopałki. They sip alcohol copiously, enjoy trinkets, stay away from technology and the turmoil of the modern world.

One evening, when they farted exceptionally loudly, they provoke an alien. He visits a stressed out Claude, who offers the guest a home-made cabbage soup, which makes a sensation. On the next visit, the alien, called by Claude the Glutton, takes a larger portion of the cabbage soup to his planet.

Krzywus is unaware of what is happening for a long time. Claude hides everything, and the neighbor who saw the spaceship is taken to be crazy. Things get complicated when the Glutton resurrects Claude's wife - except at around 20 years old.

She doesn't really want to spend her second life with her old husband and finally leaves him to devote herself to a new love. Claude and Francis are left alone again. In the end, the present day goes to Durnopałki, and the local government intensively "encourages" the elderly to sell the land. The finale is that they both fly away with the space visitor to his planet to experience peace there.

A huge spaceship digs out their entire farms so that nothing is missing in their lives. Importantly, they can live up to 200 years on a new planet without worries. The French comedy shows how unpleasantly the older generation is treated, which must look for peace and a second youth … in space.
