Our senses wear out with time. His eyesight is not so good, his hearing is already failing. Only the touch does not age. If we show some heart to our senses, they will serve us longer.
It's never too late to do something for yourself and take care ofeyes ,ears ,noseandlanguage- oursense organs . Wonderful Wiesław Michnikowski sings: "The life of an old man is cheerful (…), here the breast will delight, there is a foot (…), because the eyesight is gone, because the eyesight is not the same." These few lines contain the whole truth about our senses. After forty, they no longer function as they did in their early youth. It's a pity, because each of us wants to enjoy the richness of colors, shapes, smells and tastes of the surrounding world for as long as possible. Find out what you can do to delayaging senses .
Senses: hearing becomes weaker
Our hearing becomes dull with age; we lose high sounds, we start to be disturbed by noises that no one else hears. This is because the eardrum, which has been bombarded with noise for years, is losing its quality. In addition, the number of hair cells in the cochlea (part of the inner ear), responsible for collecting, processing and transmitting sound data to the brain, is reduced.
Do it for hearing
- love the silence - go out to nature as often as possible, do not take your radio with you, but catch the rustling of leaves, the sound of wind, splashing water or birds singing with your ear - it's a perfect relaxation for your ears
- do not use headphones - although they isolate you from the environment and you can focus only on listening to music, at the same time the sound wave does not disperse in the air, but directly hits the eardrum, which is not good for it
- avoid pressure changes - when you are flying in an airplane, suck candy or chew gum during take-off and landing and swallow frequently, yawn, while climbing high mountains, make stops and let your ears get used to the increasing pressure.
- check your hearing - preferably every year, especially when you live or work in a noisy environment; the most pleasant for your ear are sounds with the intensity not exceeding 60 decibels, i.e. birds singing, leaf rustling, conversation, gentle music; dangerous sounds are above 120decibels, like a rock concert, a jet taking off; if the noise bothers you, put protective earplugs in your ears; do not use many loud devices at the same time when vacuuming, turn off the radio
Nose on tongue
Smell and taste work in a duo. Although it is hard to believe, nearly 80 percent of what we call flavor is actually fragrance. As it turns out, even professional tasters are not able to distinguish, for example, the nuances of the taste of beer if we stuff their nose. When they savor the taste and smell, they are said to distinguish between 80 flavors of the golden drink. With age, the number of cells responsible for the reception of taste and smell sensations in our body decreases. In addition, increasing air pollution weakens our sense of smell, and this also dulls the taste.
Do it for the sense of smell and taste:
- quit smoking
- avoid smoky rooms - there are substances in tobacco smoke that adversely affect the olfactory nerve
- brush your teeth and tongue - thanks to this, bacteria will not cling between the papillae of the tongue and will not damage the taste buds, in drugstores and pharmacies you can buy special brushes for washing and massage of the tongue
- chew gum, especially when you can't even rinse your mouth with water after a meal - when chewing, your body produces more saliva, which cleans your mouth and speeds up digestion, making you experience the flavors more intensely
- do not season your dishes - enjoy the natural flavors and aromas. Especially avoid spicy spices and spicy dishes that destroy the taste buds
- take care of immunity - bacteria and viruses can damage the olfactory and taste receptors; because you will not isolate yourself with a tight barrier from pathogenic germs, you need to strengthen your immunity so that your body protects itself against infections: harden yourself, play sports (one hour's walks and half an hour's daily exercise are enough), eat a lot of vegetables, fruit, fish, dairy products, get enough sleep and relax
Senses: as the eyes get old
With age, the muscles that control the eyeball weaken. The knob itself changes its shape a bit: from spherical to slightly flattened. This includes for this reason, the light rays falling into the eye no longer focus on the retina, but behind it and older people are usually farsighted (they see worse up close). Their eyesight also becomes less precise as the number of light-sensitive cells in the retina of the eye diminishes over time.
Make it for the sight
- wear dark glasses - be sure to have a filter that protects against harmful ultraviolet radiation, wear them in summer and winter when the sun and snow are dazzling
- eatvitamin A, the most important for the eyes - prevents "night blindness", i.e. poor vision at dusk - there is a lot of it in carrots, peaches, pumpkins, melons, beets, grapefruits, green lettuce, broccoli, dried apricots; in winter you can take vitamin preparations
- moisturize the air - central heating and air conditioning make it very dry, and the eyes like humidity; if you do not have a humidifier, hang containers with water or wet towels on the radiators, you can also put the so-called eye drops into your eyes several times a day. artificial tears
- take care of good lighting - the best is mixed - top plus spot, 10 watts of light bulb power per square meter of floor, eg if the room is 12 sq m, then two sixties should be lit in it; if you spend a lot of time in front of the TV, put a lamp with a weak (15-25 W) light bulb right behind it
- exercise your eyes - every half an hour do simple exercises to relax the tensed muscles of the eyeball and moisturize the eye: - look ahead and, without moving your head, look to the sides, then up and down, and then make a few circles of sight; - blink 5 times quickly, squeeze your eyelids together and blink 5 times slowly, but slowly; - find two items in the room: one lying far away from you, the other close. Move your gaze from one to the other, quickly and slowly.
- give them a rest - sleep in a darkened room; at the end of the day, lie down for 10-15 minutes and put on your eyes a warm (not hot!) compress made of firefly infusion, verbena or chamomile baskets (it can also be tea essence)
- check your eyesight - some eye diseases, e.g. glaucoma, do not cause any symptoms for a long time, therefore specialists recommend eye examinations at least once every two years
