A he alth insurance doctor will refer you to outpatient specialist treatment or to a hospital. You have the right to choose a specialist and a hospital from among all those who have signed a contract with the National He alth Fund.
Referral to a specialist doctor or specialist clinic
They are issued by a primary care physician orspecialist doctor . He must be a doctorof he alth insurance- this is a doctor or dentist who has concluded an agreement with the National He alth Fund or is employed in a medical facility that has concluded an agreement with the National He alth Fund.The referralto a specialist doctor (specialist clinic) is valid as long as there is a cause (illness) for which you received it.
Types of referrals to a specialist doctor
- for consultation - en titles you to one visit (consultation) with a specialist doctor
- for treatment (taking care) or continuation of treatment - it is the basis for taking over the treatment by a specialist doctor. If you have received them, you will come to the next specialist doctor's appointments without a referral.
No referral is required for these specialists:
- gynecologist and obstetrician,
- dentist,
- dermatologist,
- venereologist,
- oncologist,
- ophthalmologist,
- psychiatrist.
Referral is not required from people:
- tuberculosis patients,
- HIV positive,
- for war invalids and oppressed people,
- addicted to alcohol, intoxicants and psychotropic substances - in the field of drug addiction treatment.
Hospital referral
If your condition prevents you from being treated in an outpatient setting, you will be referred to a hospital that has an agreement to provide he althcare services. Such a referral can be issued by a doctor, dentist or paramedic.
ImportantIn emergencies, he alth services are provided without the required referral. In such situations, you have the right to provide proof of he alth insurance at a later date. In other cases, if you do not have a referral, you must pay for specialist treatment.
Referrals for basic research
Here you arethe right to diagnostic tests, including medical analytics, performed on the basis of a referral from a doctor or a he alth insurance fellow. These include, among others morphology with smear, ESR, liver tests, cholesterol level, urine tests (including culture with antibiogram), stool tests, pharyngeal swab, resting ECG, abdominal ultrasound, chest, spine and sinus X-rays.
Referral for specialist examinations
If you are subject to specialist treatment and you need to undergo further tests, a specialist doctor will refer you for them. It also indicates in which outlets you are to carry them out.
