Teleconsultations with a cardiologist and geriatrician are already reimbursed by the National He alth Fund. Thanks to this, patients who have limited access to doctors of these speci alties will be able to consult them using telemedicine equipment to receive a diagnosis and medical advice.
From October 1, 2015, the refund coversteleconsultationswith a cardiologist and geriatrician. This means that, inter alia, patients from rural areas and smaller towns who live far from specialist centers will no longer have to travel hundreds of kilometers to obtain a diagnosis and professional medical advice. - Until now, they had less chance than residents of large cities to benefit from the help of a specialist - says Tadeusz Jędrzejczyk, President of the National He alth Fund. - As often admitted by family doctors themselves, even if they refer their patients to a specialist, some of them do not use this option because, as they say, travel takes both money and time. On the one hand, the possibility of teleconsultation will make it easier for patients living in the countryside to access specialist treatment, and on the other hand - it will enable GPs to consult difficult cases - he adds.
