The mission of the Alivia Cancer Foundation is to mobilize and activate cancer patients to be a brave, active patient, seeking the best therapies, doctors and centers, the shortest queues for diagnostic tests and any other information that can improve their treatment outcomes and he alth .
Alivia Oncology Foundationhighlights the problem of cancer in young people. He also promotes a pro-active attitude towards neoplastic disease and taking the initiative in its treatment: patients and relatives acquiring as much data as possible on a given case, making decisions about treatment together with the doctor. It also suggests ways to facilitate quick access to expensive tests under the National He alth Fund (Kolejkoskop.pl), information about malignant neoplasms and their treatment, as well as publishes in Polish oncological news from the world on its website and on Alivia's profile on Facebook. An important element of the foundation's activities are also advocacy activities, which are understood as speaking on behalf of patients in front of the most important decision-makers and effectively reaching the fourth authority - the largest media - with information about patients' problems.
In critical situations, the foundation helps to organize financial resources for medical services for patients that are not financed by the National He alth Fund. The collection of funds is possible thanks to the Piggy Bank Program, which is run by Alivia for those in need.
Alivia - Young People's Oncology Foundation was established in April 2010. The founder is Bartosz Poliński - Agata's older brother, who was diagnosed with advanced cancer 3 years earlier, at the age of 28. Agata's prognosis was unfavorable at the time of diagnosis. The siblings mobilized to search for the most optimal treatment methods. It was not easy - on the way they had to face an ineffective oncological care system, formal difficulties and financial problems. Fortunately, they managed to overcome these obstacles. Agata also managed to regain her he alth and change the disastrous prognosis. These experiences became an inspiration to establish an organization that helps cancer patients in the difficult treatment process.
Alivia's volunteers share their experience and help others win with the diseaseevery day. They support patients and their relatives in difficult situations, as well as engage he althy people in actions to fight cancer.
Alivia Cancer Foundation runs programs:
- Red box
It is not easy for the sick to find their place in the he alth care system. How and where to look for the optimal treatment? What to do after the diagnosis? Every year, we provide hundreds of individual advice that helps patients make better decisions about their treatment process.
- Piggy bank
Cancer patients often struggle not only with the disease, unpleasant side effects of treatment, but also with serious financial problems. The most effective drugs are sometimes not financed by the National He alth Fund, queues to specialists are long, and the treatment center is sometimes several hundred km away from the patient's place of residence. We know that money can defeat cancer, which is why we help our people get it.
- Cancer Knowledge Base
What to do to avoid cancer? What are the symptoms of tumors? What methods of therapy are offered by modern medicine? We create a knowledge base about cancer, useful for both sick and he althy people.
- Onkomapa.pl
Each of us knows how important a role in the treatment process is played by the right doctor. For people who are fighting for their lives, a doctor with an appropriate approach to the patient is especially important. On the website www.onkomapa.pl, patients can read the opinions of other patients and find the friendliest doctor and the most friendly oncology center.
- Kolejkoskop.pl
Prompt performance of appropriate tests allows for an early initiation of treatment and plays an important role in monitoring the effectiveness of the therapy. However, the queues for specialized research under the National He alth Fund are long in many centers, and the costs of private research - high. That is why we have created the website www.kolejkoskop.pl, which allows you to find the facility with the shortest queue for the examination.
