We do not have enough time to cultivate indoor plants? It is a pity, because potted plants not only decorate the interiors of apartments, but also have a good effect on our well-being. Check what good geraniums, dracaena and common ivy can do for you.
For many people, the fact thatpotted plantsdecorate interiors is already a sufficient argument to surround oneself with them. For skeptics, we have several other arguments up our sleeves, in addition confirmed by scientific research.
- Plants provide us withoxygen . In the process of photosynthesis, when exposed to light, they produce sugars. In this complicated process, they consume hydrogen andcarbon dioxide . The by-product of the chemical reactions taking place is oxygen - essential for the life of most organisms.
- They regulate the level of humidity in rooms. The drier the air, the more water vapor is released until the optimal (also for humans) air humidity is stabilized.
Potted plants - night oxygen producers
There is a group of plants that are worth having in the bedroom, because they absorb carbon dioxide at night and give off oxygen. They are woody aloe ( Aloe arborescens ), Christmas cactus ( Zygokaktus sp. ), Easter cactus ( Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri), Guinean Sansevieria ( Sansevieria trifasciata ) and the orchid.
- The Christmas cactus comes from Brazil. In winter it feels best at a temperature of 10-15 degrees C. It is watered very sparingly for most of the year, and when flower buds appear - slightly more abundant. If it stands in a warm interior (above 22 degrees C) and is watered abundantly - it does not bloom. He doesn't like overdoing it. It is best to do this only when the roots have come out of the pot. During the flowering period, you can feed it 2-3 times with fertilizer for cacti.
- Guinean Sansevieria comes from tropical regions of Africa. It is very resistant to difficult vegetation conditions, e.g. it tolerates dry air very well. Although it likes sunny places, it also grows well away from the window. She feels best in warm rooms. It is watered sparingly in summer, and sparingly in winter. You can use tap water for this purpose, because the plant likes calcium in the substrate. In summer, it can be fed with fertilizer for cacti. Sansevieria is rarely exaggerated, preferably only when the roots are spreading the pot. The substrate should be coarse-grained, with pieces of stones, and without peat. Too low temperature and excess water in the substrate cause the root neck to rot.

ImportantGeranium secretes phytoncides that inhibit the growth of bacteria. The juice of the fleshy leaves of aloe vera has healing properties. Herbs: basil, sage, lemon balm, thyme have bactericidal properties, and when added to dishes, they regulate the digestive system.
Potted plants - absorbers of harmful substances
It is also worth choosing those plants that are easy to grow and effective in operation. We have been growing many of them in our apartments for years, e.g. common ivy ( Hedera helix ), dracaena ( Dracena sp. ), spring ficus ( Ficus robusta ), nephrolepis (commonly referred to as fern) and winged flower ( Spathiphyllum sp. ).
- Dracaena comes from tropical regions of Africa. Likes bright and warm places away from direct sunlight. It does not tolerate temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius, and grows well even when it is more than 25 degrees Celsius. Because it likes humid air, it is good to sprinkle it every day. You need to water abundantly, but not to flood the roots - it's best to put a layer of drainage at the bottom of the pot, i.e. gravel or expanded clay.
- The spider moth grows in its natural state in Colombia and Venezuela. Likes semi-shaded or bright, warm places (15-24 degrees Celsius). It requires regular watering - more abundant in summer and moderate in winter. When the temperature exceeds 20 degrees C, the plants must be sprinkled. It is good to fertilize them in spring and summer, even every few days.
- Common ivy feels best at temperatures of 15-18 degrees Celsius, but it can tolerate both lower and higher temperatures. It grows well in bright places, but tolerates shade (then the shoots are longer and the leaves are thinner). The leaves of variegated varieties change color to dark green away from the light. It requires systematic watering (the higher the temperature, the more abundant), but be careful not to flood the root ball. Likes sprinkling.
