Fordyce spots are benign lesions - small, light, sometimes yellowish or red, spots or papules a few millimeters in size. They usually appear on the penis, scrotum, labia, and sometimes also on the face: lips, mouth, eyelids and nipples. What are the causes of their appearance and how is the treatment going?
Fordyce spotsare a benign lesion that does not need to be treated, but is sometimes disturbing to notice. They arise as a result of the accumulation of sebum in the sebaceous glands. They are often located near the hair follicles, but also separate from them. They can appear singly or in larger clusters. Fordyce spots are very common, occurring in about 80 percent of adults. They are present in the skin from birth, but they grow and become more visible only in adolescence and later in life.

However, when we notice them for the first time, they can cause anxiety. No wonder - there are several diseases that manifest themselves in a similar way, such as venereal diseases (e.g. genital warts) that need to be treated with drugs, herpes and even cancer. A doctor - first contact, gynecologist, urologist - will dispel all doubts.
How to get rid of Fordyce spots?
Since spots are a physiological phenomenon and do not endanger human he alth in any way, doctors usually advise against removing them. However, there are methods of "treating" them, such as the surgical CO2laser and electric drying, available in aesthetic medicine offices. Their use reduces the visibility of spots and nodules, but sometimes they leave scars.

Since Fordyce spots are the result of certain disorders of the sebaceous glands, their visibility can also be reduced through diet. What should it look like?
- Take care of proper skin hydration. Drinking 1.5-2 liters of still water daily will help.
- Minimize your intake of sugars, s alt, and processed foods. Avoid preparing your meals with a lot of oil.
- Avoid carbonated drinks and alcohol.
- Quit smoking.
- Bet on natural products, possibly organic vegetables, good-quality meat and dairy products.
- The skin condition is supported by vitamin A, vitamin D and B vitamins, omega-3 acids. They can be obtained from a balanced diet, but also consider supplementation.
The visibility of Fordyce spots will be slightly reduced by topical creams that contain tretinoin, which causes proper exfoliation of cells blocking the hair follicles, thus preventing the accumulation of sebum. You can help yourself with acne-fighting fluids containing benzyl peroxide and salicylic acid.
