Obesity, the so-called gluteus-femoral obesity, also known as pear-type obesity, is the type of obesity that most often affects women. Gluteal-femoral obesity is not as dangerous to he alth as obesity. abdominal, but it is much more difficult to get rid of.

Obesity called gluteus-femoral(also known as gynoid obesity orpear-type obesity ) is the type of obesity that most often affects women. Gluteal-femoral obesity is characterized by excess body fat in the lower body, which is the hips, buttocks and thighs. The silhouette of people with this type of obesity is characterized by wide and rounded hips, a fairly large bottom that sometimes falls down and seems to merge with full thighs, as well as elaborate calves and not very long legs. On the other hand, the upper body is slim, i.e. the abdomen is usually flat, the waist is medium or very indented and low, and the shoulders are narrow and sometimes slightly sloping. Women also have a small bust (cup A or B).

Gluteal-femoral obesity according to the WHR criterion

Gluteal-femoral obesity can be diagnosed by calculating the waist to hip circumference ratio using the waist / hip ratio, i.e.WHR(waist to hip circumference ratio):

WHR=waist circumference: hip circumference

This calculator is only used for people whoseBMIis greater than 25, i.e. overweight or obese. If the BMI is within the normal range, this calculator should not be used as the results will be incorrect. This also applies to pregnant women.

How to calculate WHR? In women, it is enough to measure the waist in the middle of the distance between the lower arch of the ribs and the upper edge of the iliac crest, and the circumference of the hips by guiding the tape measure through the greatest bulge of the gluteal muscles. In men, the waist circumference is measured at the navel line and the hip circumference is measured at the line of the top of the femur.

If the WHR is less than 0.85 in women, and less than 1.0 in men, it can be referred to as gluteal-femoral obesity. However, if the WHR is greater than or equal to 0.85 in women or greater than or equal to 1.0 in men, it is abdominal obesity. However, it should be remembered that the WHR value depends on the contents of the stomach and intestines and on the width of the bony pelvis, which should be taken into account when consideringlimit values.

Gluteal-femoral obesity - is it dangerous to your he alth?

Gluteal-femoral obesity is not as dangerous to he alth as obesity in the so-called ventral as it does not increase the risk of metabolic diseases such as diabetes. The research of scientists shows that in the case of this type of obesity, the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases is 3 times lower than in the case of abdominal obesity. Unfortunately, gluteal-femoral obesity is often associated with the occurrence of varicose veins, degeneration of the lower limbs osteoarticular system and biliary tract diseases.

Gluteal-femoral obesity - diet

People whose fat tissue is deposited in the lower parts of the body should follow a diet based on products with a low glycemic index. Therefore, the menu should be dominated by products such as groats, poultry, fresh or steamed vegetables. White bread, pasta, rice, bananas, red meat, sweets and boiled potatoes or carrots are not recommended (their glycemic index is much higher than in the raw form). Alcohol, which promotes obesity, should also be excluded.

Gluteal-femoral obesity - exercises

People with gluteal-femoral obesity should focus on exercises aimed at reducing the imbalance between a lean top and a voluminous bottom. An element of daily gymnastics should be both exercises to slim down massive thighs and hips, and exercises for the muscles of the upper body, aimed at strengthening the muscles of the shoulders and chest. Therefore, the lower body zone requires aerobic training to help burn fat, such as walking, cycling or exercising on an elliptical machine. The upper part, on the other hand, should be subjected to strength exercises. However, intensive lower body exercises are not recommended, because when the hips and thighs are strongly muscled, body disproportions will become even more pronounced.
