Routine strengthens and seals the smallest blood vessels, i.e. capillaries. This flavonoid is found in many over-the-counter medications. What is a routine and what are its benefits? What are the possible side effects of using routine? Is caution necessary when using routine?
Routineis a component of drugs, dietary supplements, and many cosmetics for the care of couperose skin or elimination of stretch marks. The most popularmedications with routineare remedies for seasonal colds and flu. In combination with vitamin C, and often calcium, zinc or selenium, routine reduces runny nose and improves the body's resistance (by sealing blood vessels).
The second group of drugs - in which we may find not only routine, but its derivative - are preparations that strengthen the veins, prevent varicose veins and puffiness. Due to its sealing properties and improving their condition, the routine is also used as an aid in diabetic retinopathy, atherosclerosis and venous circulation disorders.
What is a routine?
Rutin is a plant-derived flavonoid that can be obtained from the buds of Japanese pearl, buckwheat, rue, barberry, St. John's wort, peppermint or elderberry.
Advantages of a routine
Routine strengthens and seals the smallest blood vessels, i.e. capillaries. Thanks to this, it prevents the formation of spider veins or reduces them. It also improves the elasticity of the walls of all blood vessels, which prevents the appearance of edema and puffiness (especially in the legs). As a flavonoid, it has an antioxidant effect, combating free radicals. This protects not only the vessels, but also all cells of our body against damage.
In addition to fighting free radicals, rutin significantly reduces the toxic effects of oxidized cholesterol, which lowers the risk of heart disease and atherosclerosis. According to recent studies, routine can prevent excessive blood clotting and can be used in prophylaxis in patients at risk of strokes and heart attacks.
Possible side effects of routine
Prolonged use of routine may enhance the effects of oral medicationsanticoagulant warfarin derivatives. Since routine is often combined with vitamin C, it is important to know that this vitamin can reduce the effectiveness of tricyclic antidepressants and aminoglycosides, and increase iron absorption from the gastrointestinal tract. Simultaneous intake of sulfamides and preparations containing rutin and vitamin C may lead to crystalluria, i.e. the precipitation of crystals of various compounds in the urine. Long-term use of rutin enhances the effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Be careful with routine
Despite the fact that the routine is very well tolerated and has no side effects, it must always be used in the manner prescribed by the manufacturer of a given preparation or according to medical recommendations. During the treatment with sulfamides, one should remember about the risk of crystalluria with the combined use of these drugs as well as routine and vitamin C. Pregnant women should consult their doctor before using any preparations.
