Acute diarrhea in adults is the body's defense reaction to an attack by viruses, bacteria, parasites or the effect of toxic substances contained, for example, in drugs. The degree of dehydration is assessed in three stages

STAGE 1 - no symptoms of dehydration STAGE 2 - moderate dehydration manifested by:

  • desire,
  • apathy or irritability,
  • reduced skin elasticity,
  • with sunken eyes

STAGE 3 - severe dehydration

  • symptoms of moderate dehydration worsen;
  • decreased awareness,
  • oliguria,
  • low or undetectable blood pressure,
  • pale skin.

Ways to dehydrate from diarrhea

The patient's body should be hydrated and the electrolyte balance in the body should be restored. for this purpose, the so-called oral rehydration fluids. Their composition is extended with the content of amino acids and glucose, which are necessary for the absorption of water by the damaged epithelium of the digestive tract.

Homemade mixture of 1/2 teaspoon s alt (3.5 g), 1 teaspoon baking soda (2.5 g NaHCO3), 8 teaspoons sugar (40 g) and 8 ml orange juice (1.5 g) is equally effective. KCl),diluted in 1 liter of water.

Important

The patient should not be irrigated with carbonated drinks or various types of juices. These are the so-called hypertonic, which "suck" the water contained in the cells of the intestinal mucosa, thus increasing the risk of dehydration.

A proper diet is also recommended. You can eat boiled potatoes, pasta, rice, wheat and oats, crackers, bananas, soups, and cooked vegetables.
