The ointment is a locally malignant neoplasm originating from ameloblasts of the dental lamina. It is most often found in the area of the molars in the back part of the mandible, less often in the maxilla.

The enormous tumoris amandibular cancergenerally not very painful and characterized by slow, long-term growth. Adamantals usually develop in people between the ages of 20 and 50.

Types of mandibular cancer

Szkliwiak comes in many varieties, including character:

  • multi-chamber - the tumor resorbs the rootsteethit comes into contact with
  • single-chamber - occurs in 20 percent. cases. This character has the best prognosis and rarely recurs
  • peripheral - the tumor occurs outside the bone in soft tissues, most often in the gum covering the alveolar processes

The ammoid is usually a benign neoplasm, but there are also malignant amelomas. What distinguishes it from enameloma is its ability to produce distant metastases, which are often located in the lungs.

Symptoms of enamel

This type of cancer is most often found accidentally on X-rays. Sometimes, however, there are symptoms such as:

  • facial asymmetry
  • bad wound healing after tooth extraction
  • swollen cheek or gums
  • changes in the bite
  • nasal obstruction
  • sensory disturbance in the lower lip and chin area

Maxillary amelomas often invade the maxillary sinus, bulging its wall towards the nasal cavity. This causes obstruction and difficulty breathing.

Szkliwiak under the magnifying glass

The radiological image of the tumor helps in the diagnosis of enamelomas - occlusal photo, magnetic resonance or computed tomography, good in imaging the destruction of the bones around the tumor and is used for small lesions.
This tumor may resemble many other lesions, therefore the final diagnosis is provided by microscopic evaluation of a specimen or tumor removed during the operation.

Cancer treatment

The only way to get rid of a tumor is by surgical removal of the tumor. When it is not too large, it can be removed completely, in the case of larger tumors, the so-called segmental or partial mandible excision. It is extremely rare that the enamel covers the entire lower jaw.It is then necessary to remove the entire lower jaw.
Another alternative in the treatment of adenomas is the use of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Such treatments are often used to reduce the size of the tumor, making it easier to remove surgically.

Important

Incompletely removed enameloma can transform into a malignant tumor, metastasize to the kidneys, lungs, lymph nodes and other bones. Therefore, periodic radiological control is very important.
