Root canal treatment - indications

Untreated carious lesions penetrate deeper and deeper layers of the tooth. First, caries attacks the dentin, and over time it reaches the pulp. When bacteria multiply, this part of the tooth becomes inflamed. With acute inflammation, the pains are very strong. They can appear suddenly and last from a few minutes to several hours. They worsen when you eat sweets or drink something hot or cold. They also annoy when changing position - leaning over or lying down.

If you do not start treatment at this stage, the pulpitis may turn into necrosis and even gangrene of the tooth. Bacteria will destroy the tip of the tooth and enter the surrounding tissues. The next blow will be the periodontium - acute or chronic inflammation will develop. The pain will become even more severe, even when touching the tooth with the tongue. When pus accumulates at the top of the root, it looks for an outlet. It breaks through the bone and periosteum and passes into the soft tissues.

Untreated periodontitis can develop into periostitis and lead to the formation of a submucosal abscess. Soft tissuessurrounding the tooth swells and the pain is so strong that we want to get rid of its source as soon as possible.

Root canal treatment - price

At the beginning, it should be noted that the price for root canal treatment increases with the number of root canals that are treated. Therefore, root canal treatment of single-root teeth (lower and upper ones: ones, two and three, and lower fours and fives) is cheaper than treatment of teeth with more canals, such as upper premolars (i.e. the lower fours and fives with 2 canals) and upper and lower molars (i.e. upper and lower sixes, sevens and eighths with 3 canals, less often 4).

Prices for root canal treatment vary - the highest prices are in big cities. They also depend on the experience of the doctor who performs the procedure and the technologies he uses. Most often, root canal treatment of a single-canal tooth costs from PLN 300-450, a two-canal tooth - PLN 400-600, and a three-canal tooth - as much as PLN 500-800. If it is necessary to repeat root canal treatment, you need to add PLN 100-200 to the basic price.

In addition, during root canal treatment, additional diagnostic procedures, such as X-ray of the tooth, are performed to accurately determine the number of canals. The price for an X-ray of one tooth usually ranges from PLN 20 to PLN 30.

Root canal treatment - does it hurt?

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, therefore the patient should not feel any pain. In addition, the tooth without viable pulp no longer has the innervation that conducts pain impulses.

Root canal treatment - what is it about?

Any tooth that hurts must be x-rayed. The tooth X-ray will allow the doctor to assess how much damage has occurred. If there is a chance of saving him, it is worthwhile to opt for root canal treatment, especially since it can now be performed painlessly, even during one visit.

Root canal treatment is excluded in patients with hemophilia, endocarditis, some rheumatic diseases and mental disorders. Pregnant women should consult their gynecologist.

What does root canal treatment look like? - In order for the procedure to be comfortable and painless for the patient, strong local anesthesia is administered with a computer system - says the drug. med. chir. stom. Roman Borczyk from the Clinic of Implantology and Aesthetic Dentistry. - To ensure precision, all treatment is performed under a microscope. The microscope allows you to clean the remains of tissues and bacteria and fill all the tooth canals along their entire length, such cleaning is crucial for the success of the treatment - adds the expert.

After removal of the infected pulp, appropriateshaping the canals, their thorough cleaning and drying, the dentist tightly closes the canals with a filling material - biocompatible gutta-percha. It is a substance of natural origin, which is a biocompatible material, and therefore well tolerated by the body. Besides, it is easy to introduce into the sewer. - The gutta-percha is introduced into the canal together with the sealant. Thanks to its prior heating and plasticization, it is possible to thoroughly stuff the material and, as a result, fill the canal so that it is fully tight and free of air bubbles, explains the drug. Roman Borczyk. Everything is done under the control of digitally taken X-ray images.

- The treated tooth is separated from the rest with a special clamp and a rubber dam. Thanks to this, we ensure the sterility of the treatment area, and we also protect the patient against any substances used during endodontic treatment from entering his oral cavity - says the expert.

According to an expertbow. Roman Borczyk from the Clinic of Implantology and Aesthetic Dentistry, a dental surgeon

In the past, in the absence of appropriate diagnostic and treatment methods, teeth with extensive periapical lesions were qualified for removal or their treatment was undertaken during several visits to the office, without guaranteeing. Today, such teeth are treated during one visit, and the effectiveness of treatment reaches 95%. Currently, treatment allows you to save a tooth that would have to be removed one day. Thanks to modern technologies, teeth can be effectively treated today, preserving them for many years.

Root canal treatment - what about teeth treated with old methods?

In the case of dead teeth treated with old methods, bacteria cannot be removed with an orally administered antibiotic. Blood does not reach a dead tooth with bacteria or their spores. Blood-borne antibiotic as well.

Thorough cleaning of the canals with ozonation in the final stage and the use of gold and silver nanoparticles preventing the growth of bacteria gives a great chance to save the tooth. To be sure that ozone with strong antibacterial and antifungal properties is used in the channels, even the smallest ones. Gaseous ozone reaches the smallest crevices of an extensive system of root canals, which are often not reached by rinsing liquids, effectively disinfecting them.

Before filling the canals, a modern preparation is applied inside the canals, containing silver and gold nanoparticles to protect the tooth against the development of bacteria. This prevents the condition from reoccurringinflammation in the treated tooth. If the inflammatory changes around the root tips do not regress after root canal treatment, an additional tooth root resection is performed.

Important

When the cured tooth becomes darker

It can be brightened from the inside. First, a sealant is introduced inside the tooth to prevent pain. Then, the whitening preparation is put on and covered with a dressing (e.g. the so-called flask). In order for the teeth not to differ in color from the others, 3-4 visits are usually needed. After obtaining the appropriate shade of white, the tooth is sealed. The treatment is enough for 6-8 years.
