I'm 18 years old. I just did some blood tests, incl. liver tests AST (GOT) and ALT (GPT. To my surprise, the AST result was 43.0 IU / l, while the norm is up to 35 IU / l. I was very concerned about this result, and at the same time gave me a lot to think about. Internet, what this could mean and I came across [unproven!] Reports that the elevated state of this study may be a result of alcohol intoxication. Indeed, while I drink alcohol occasionally, I was very alcohol-overactive 4 days prior to the study. I thought 3 days later I will no longer have alcohol in my blood and everything will be OK for the tests Also, I normally drink a lot of coffee - since I got the result, worried about them, I haven't had a single cup of it. If so, by when should this indicator normalize? Tomek

Alcohol is a liver damaging factor, and it is proven beyond doubt. One of the signs of liver damage may be an increase in GOT and GPT activity, and there may also be elevated activities of other enzymes. The finding of increased enzyme activity is not related to the current presence or absence in the body, but to the consumption of alcohol, which is harmful to the entire body. In your case, I strongly advise you to stop consuming any alcohol - even in small amounts (socially acceptable but not accepted by your liver!). It is also advisable to limit the consumption of fatty and fried foods. If you follow the above tips, your results should normalize. I propose to do a control blood test not earlier than in two weeks. If you ignore the advice to stop drinking alcohol altogether, you may have serious liver problems in the future. The most dangerous complication is cirrhosis of the liver. Better not to risk it! Remember that at the present stage, you can have an impact on your he alth, in the advanced stages, even specialist medicine cannot always help. Remember that prevention is better than cure!
