Fragrant and pleasing to the eye, the yellow flowers of arnica have so many properties that have been appreciated for centuries that this plant was almost completely extinct. Today, arnica is under strict protection, and the raw material for pharmaceutical and cosmetic products comes from crops.
Arnikaoccurs in mountainous areas - in Poland, this plant can be found in the Sudetes and the Carpathians. Arnica was mainly valued for its unique healing properties. It owes them to a rare combination of active substances. Arnica flowers contain sesquiterpene lactones, incl. helenalin, numerous flavonoids, phytosterols, carotenoids, triterpenes, tannins, organic acids. These are substances with a broad spectrum of activity. No wonder that the advantages of this herb are also appreciated by modern pharmacy. The cosmetics industry is also happy to use them, because active substances from extracts obtained from arnica penetrate the epidermis very well, reaching the deeper skin layers.
Arnika eliminates swelling and bruises
Arnica preparations eliminate swelling and bruises - they stimulate blood circulation and thus disperse accumulated fluids from damaged tissues: blood, plasma, lymph.
Arnica montana contains the active ingredient helenalin, which works at the cellular level. During trauma (impact etc.), the NF protein KAPPA-B is activated and transported into the cell. The NF KAPPA-B protein stimulates the production of substances responsible for inflammation.
Helenaline, present in Arnica montana, blocks the activation of the NF protein KAPPA-B, so inflammation mediators are not produced and inflammation is resorbed. That is why it is so important to use a preparation with Arnica montana, e.g. a gel, as soon as possible.
Arnica can be used in the form of, for example, a gel externally in the case of injuries, bruises and pain after exercise.
It is also worth reaching for a medicine, not a cosmetic. When buying the drug, we can be sure that it has healing properties, so it will have a therapeutic effect and reduce symptoms caused by trauma, such as swelling, bruising, redness.
Arnica preparations will prove themselves especially during a holiday vacation. Nice weather encourages physical activity. A moment of inattention is enough for it to happenfalling off a bicycle or being hit while playing a ball. then just apply a thin layer of arnica ointment to the painful area and massage gently until completely absorbed.
Arnika relieves pain after injuries of joints and muscles
Sprains, contusions, sprains or even soreness of over-trained arnica muscles will quickly bring relief. In addition to its anti-inflammatory effect, improving circulation and sealing blood vessels, arnica extract also has warming and analgesic properties, and also supports the regeneration of damaged tissues. That is why it is an exceptionally valuable component of various preparations intended for the treatment of injuries and contusions.
Arnika cares for couperose skin
Cosmetics for such skin use the fact that arnica extracts easily penetrate the epidermis and reach the capillary blood vessels, causing them to shrink and strengthen their walls. It is true that dilated capillaries will not disappear completely, but after some time they will become less visible, and more importantly - no new "spider veins" will appear. Especially when the whole line of cosmetics with arnica is used - both for skin cleansing, daily care, as well as special masks and serums.
Arnika helps with gum problems
Bacteriostatic and bactericidal properties, mainly helenalin and flavonoids, are used in dental preparations, incl. in mouthwashes. They help heal gingivitis and ulcers on the gums and mouth. They are also an effective remedy for canker sores.
Arnika supports acne treatment
Arnica extract is an ideal addition to cosmetics intended for oily, seborrhoeic and blemish skin. Carotenoids are vitamin A precursors and powerful antioxidants - they are perfect for treating acne. Thymol and chlorogenic acid have disinfecting properties, they can cope not only with bacteria and viruses, but also fungi. A light infusion or decoction of arnica can be used instead of a tonic for wiping the skin, and also for rinsing the hair if it becomes greasy quickly.
Arnika heals frostbite and burns
Arnica preparations are perfect for less deep injuries as a result of cold or heat. Improving circulation in small blood vessels and the bacteriostatic and bactericidal properties of arnica contribute to faster healing and regeneration of damaged tissues. Warning! In severe tissue injuries, especially third degree burns that cause open wounds, arnica preparations not only won't help, but can even be harmful.
ImportantActive substances from arnica, taken in oral preparations, have a strong effect on the circulatory system and the gastrointestinal tract. They can raise blood pressure, disrupt the heart, irritate the stomach, cause abdominal pain, vomiting. They are dangerous especially for people with heart diseases and after a heart attack, as well as those who have peptic ulcer disease. Therefore, the use of such preparations, and even ordinary infusions of this herb, should be agreed with your doctor in advance.
