The clitoris - what is it?
As improbable as it may seem, it wasn't until 1998 that Australian urologist Helen O'Connell and her team thoroughly examined and then presented to the world how this organ really is built.
Previously, male scientists focused their attention on the clitoris. It started with Hippocrates, who called the clitoris "the servant welcoming guests" and, unlike the researchers who followed him, wrongly claimed that it was involved in reproduction - it would produce a similar male sperm and, during the sexual act, bind to the male semen .
In the Middle Ages, the clitoris was either seen as a symbol of female relations with the devil, or its existence was completely ignored. In 1559, the Italian surgeon Realdo Colombo officially confirmed the existence of such an organ as the clitoris. Unlike his predecessors, he understood that this organ was "a lovely little thing". Two years later, another Italian doctor, Gabrielle Falloppio, began to blame the discovery of the clitoris.
The clitoris is moving! During intercourse, it moves forward and rubs against the base of the penis, which additionally stimulates it.
In the 17th century, the Dutchman Reiner De Graaf undertook to create a more specific than "pretty little thing" description of this organ, and in the 19th century - in 1844 - the German Georg Kobelt created the first illustrations of the clitoris, which after more detailed research in the next centuries turned out to be very accurate.

Best positions for clitoral stimulation
Unfortunately, although some scientists tried their best to learn about the structure and properties of the clitoris, there were also those who were disturbed by it. For example, Pierre Dionis, a physician of Louis XIV, argued that if the clitoris was "useless", it had to be removed. So what we are surprised to see in African countries today, we ourselves had in Europe centuries ago.
The clitoris does not get sick and does not age - it remains unchanged from the moment a woman reaches sexual maturity.
The 19th century was a period of female "hysteria" - when doctors did not know what was wrong with the patient, they diagnosed hysteria. As male scientists did not understand, did not have adequate knowledge about female sexuality, it was they who made her responsible for all diseases of female representatives. So it was decided to cut women's clitoris - he did so, among others. Austrian surgeon Gustav Braun, who in 1869 announced the success of his actions - excision of the clitoris and labia minora completely cured his patient of fatal masturbation. Isaac Baker Brown did the same, causing one of his patients to lead to a life-threatening hemorrhage.
Shortly after that, "fashion" moved to the United States. According to data from the World He alth Organization, there are currently 200 million circumcised women in the world, and this number is joined by another 3 million each year.
The "enemy of the clitoris number 1" isSigmund Freud , who introduced the concept of vaginal orgasm and argued that a woman should only seek pleasure through penetration.
In 1948, in Henry Gray's famous anatomy textbook, the clitoris was not even mentioned. The famous American sexologist Alfred Kinsey wrote in the 1950s that it is a center of female sexuality. Research on the clitoris was also conducted in the 1980s, but it was only those published in 1998 by Helen O'Conell that revealed the anatomy of the clitoris to the world. The activities of the Australian researcher were inspired by Dr. Odile Buisson, a French gynecologist, who in 2008, together with her team, created a three-dimensional model of this organ.
As many as 75-80 percent of women who reach orgasm at all during intercourse, clitoral stimulation is required.
The 21st century, the time of "girl power", brings rehabilitation of the clitoris - more and more people talk about this organ in articles on the Internet and in women's magazines. You can finallyfocus on female pleasure. An interesting animated film devoted to the clitoris was created by the French Lori Malépart-Traversy. The production was awarded at several festivals. The video is only available in English, but you don't need to know the language well to understand its message.

Clitoris - structure
The clitoris is called a micropenis, but this is not true. The "lump" visible at the top of the labia is just "the top of the iceberg".The clitoris is about 12-15 cm!The entire clitoris resembles an inverted letter Y. It starts with this small (about 0.5-3.5 cm) point and then branches on both sides of the vagina, down into the pelvis as far as the pubic bones - their lower branches.
Both legs of the clitoris are built of the corpus cavernosum, which, again, the resemblance to the penis is justified, filling with blood in moments of excitement and swelling. Moreover, in the vestibule, between these two large branches, are the atrium bulbs, another two cavernous bodies that surround the vaginal opening and the urethral opening.
What connects the clitoris to the penis is "origin". Until the age of 12 weeks, male and female fetuses develop the same - they have a sexual lump. From this lump, either the penis or the clitoris develops.
The three-dimensional model of the clitoris has been a regular guest at sex education classes in France since 2016.
Both these organs end with an acorn (this little button of the clitoris is the glans). And here various theories emerge: according to some, the clitoris on the glans has as many as 8,000 nerve endings, and the penis only 4,000, which makes the female organ more sensitive to pleasure. Other estimates show that both the penis and the clitoris each have 8,000 nerve endings, but as the clitoris has a much smaller surface area, in any case it remains in a duel for the pleasure of winning: the head of the clitoris is definitely more sensitive to stimuli than the head of the penis. Both the clitoris and the penis harden when excited because their cavernous bodies fill with blood - the clitoris can even double in size during this erection. It also takes on a darker color due to this flowing blood.

Clitoris - Features
Clitoris, as mentioned above,it has an important task - it serves female pleasure. Freud, mentioned above, also distinguished between vaginal and clitoral orgasms, calling the former mature, the latter - on the contrary.
Today, sexologists have a different opinion - women do not have a vaginal or clitoral orgasm - there is one orgasm, but different pathways to it. Ie. Whether it's by stimulating the clitoris, labia or brushing the nape of her neck - when a woman reaches orgasm, her organs react the same. As the clitoris extends deep into the vagina, it should be stimulated even from the inside. After all, the clitoris "wraps" the vagina. The famous G-spot, supposedly located on the anterior wall inside the vagina and palpable as a rough lump, is also meant to be part of the clitoris.
The clitoris, as it is very sensitive to stimuli, does not like being pinched. A gentle touch is enough for her, and pressure can lead to pain. The clitoris is ready for the second erection very quickly, even within a dozen or so seconds. In 1996, Italian scientists investigated that the clitoris, unlike the penis, does not have a venous plexus, which in men is blocked by muscles at the moment of stimulation, which prevents the venous blood from draining away. The erection of the glans in women is not permanent, it contracts and expands quickly, which allows for multiple orgasms.
The clitoris - how to caress it?
How to caress the clitoris?Well, this is where the "stairs" begin. Only a small percentage of men know how to do it. If they can find the clitoris, they will crumple it without any feeling, believing that it will be enough. In addition, some, those who already know that a woman requires a longer run, torment the sensitive clitoris to the point of death. And the painful moans their partner makes because of this, they take for love sounds. The effect of stimulating the clitoris depends on many factors, mainly its individual sensitivity. It's best if the woman herself shows her partner how to caress the clitoris.
Here are some tips for tutors:
- Stimulate her pubic mound with your whole hand, then her clitoris with one finger.
- Touch lightly at first, then harder, but all the time be careful not to exceed the pain threshold.
- Change the method of stimulation not only in terms of the strength of the touch, but also its direction. Use top-down, bottom-up movements, including lateral and rotational movements.
- Use an extended form of stimulation, i.e. touch and press on her mound, clitoris and labia at the same time. For some women who are caressed in this way, the excitement builds up more slowly, but this type of touch is more pleasant for them.
- Caress her clitoris orally - you can also do it in many ways, e.g. by limiting yourself to the clitoris or by using extended stimulation (stimulation of the clitoris, labia and vaginal opening).
- Stimulate it with your tongue and hand at the same time, using an alternate touch, e.g. caress the clitoris with your tongue, and around it with your hands, then vice versa.
- Choose a position so that her clitoris is stimulated by your penis. This is possible, for example, in a side position or when it is on you. In many other positions this may also be the case, but may already require more dexterity from you.
Worth knowingA woman can only reach orgasm by stimulating her clitoris.
What men don't know about the clitoris
The most common mistakes that happen to a man while caressing the clitoris are "loosing" the clitoris during stimulation (during sexual arousal, the glans of the clitoris first enlarges, then it rises, approaching the front edge of the pubic symphysis, then This may give the male the impression that clitoris is disappearing, getting lost). Another fairly common mistake is inappropriate stimulation of the clitoris, which can cause a woman to lose interest in the further game. There are things the clitoris especially likes, but there are also things that it runs away from. It is worth for every man to know about them before starting the action.
Clitoris - what does he dislike?
- Cessation of stimulation and abrupt transition to intercourse (this will cause clitoris congestion and pain).
- Too strong stimuli (men have less sensitivity in their fingers and think they can barely, barely touch, while the pressure is strong).
- Too long arousal ("because they need a longer foreplay …").
- Uncomfortable position in which the partner does this.
- Ignorance of the signals sent to his partner by the woman (he takes a moan of pain for a moan of pleasure).
- Bored with this form of stimulation (some men still believe that the only orgasm a woman can experience is an orgasm during normal intercourse, a vaginal orgasm).
Of course, it doesn't matter how a woman experiences an orgasm, or whether she has it simultaneously with her partner or not. But, since nature has given her such a special organ as the clitoris, these peculiarities of her should be fully exploited.
