The ingredients contained in saw palmetto inhibit the multiplication of epithelial and glandular cells in the prostate. Drugs for potency are subject to the Main Pharmaceutical Inspector - both at the stage of production and sale in pharmacies. To be allowed on the market, they must meet stringent quality standards, and their therapeutic effect is confirmed by clinical trials. Only certified raw materials, the quality of which is constantly monitored, can be used in the production of herbal medicines. A leaflet must be attached to the medicine, including about the method of use, contraindications and side effects.
Potency dietary supplements are considered by Polish law as food and are subject to the Chief Sanitary Inspector. Their placing on the market does not require a permit, only informing the GIS about this fact. Sildenafil starts working after 25 minutes and the effect lasts up to 4 hours. Its effectiveness has been confirmed in all groups of patients with erectile dysfunction (patients with diabetes, depression, spinal cord injuries, kidney failure or prostate surgery).
Sildenafil's action is not limited to inhibiting phosphodiesterase type 5. Studies have shown that it also inhibits type 6 of this enzyme, which is found in the retina of the eye. This is manifested by a blue glow and deterioration of color recognition in men who use it.Other side effects include headache, hot flush and stuffy nose. These symptoms disappear with prolonged use of the drug. The drug should not be combined with alcohol, and a high-fat diet reduces its effect by 30%.

Drugs with phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors must not be combined with other preparations that release nitric oxide (e.g. nitroglycerin). They should not be taken by men with unstable ischemic heart disease or with unregulated blood pressure or ventricular arrhythmias. This does not mean, however, that they are condemned to erectile dysfunction - if the doctor manages to regulate their condition with the use of appropriate drugs, the use of this type of preparations is acceptable.
