Epispadiasis is a congenital defect of the urethra and external genitalia, affecting newborns of both sexes, although it is more common in boys. The external opening of the urethra is located on the dorsal surface of the penis - the urethra is not fused, the penis is short and flat, bent upwards.

Wearingoccurs extremely rarely in the female sex. The form with incomplete urinary incontinence manifests itself with a clitoral cleft. If the urinary continence is completely disturbed, it is also possible to split the symphysis pubis and involvement of the urethra.

Studding in boys

In mild episodes, the opening of the urethra is located on the dorsum of the penis, and in the advanced form, the penis is shortened (pulled under the symphysis pubis). This is accompanied by complete urinary incontinence.

Mountaineering - types

Medicine lists two types of horse riding:

  • incomplete epithelium, which we divide into acorns, i.e. limited to the glans, and penile, i.e. concerning the entire shaft of the penis
  • total epithelium consists in failure to fuse the entire urethra together with both sphincter. In this case, the patient is completely incontinent and the penis is short

Topography - symptoms

The characteristic symptoms of this disease include:

  • Completely unfused coil with sphincter. The child is then unable to hold urine
  • flat penis, short and bent upwards
  • sebaceous cleft
  • sometimes bilateral inguinal hernia
  • testicle failure
  • vesicoureteral drains

Mountaineering - treatment

In the case of this disease, treatment should be applied already between the ages of 2-3, and it consists of plastic reconstruction and procedures that enable urinary incontinence.
