Giving life shouldn't hurt. Future mothers who want to give birth to their offspring with a smile on their face can undergo hypnosis during childbirth, smell violets or… a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide. What are some natural ways to relieve labor pain?

Natural remedies for labor painare gaining more and more popularity every year. The first one is considered the most painful delivery. However, research shows that three-quarters of women, including those who are already mothers, cannot cope with the pain of labor. Breathing and positive thinking don't help. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try natural remedies for labor pain before asking for an epidural.

Pain in labor: breathe and don't think

Pain is pain, although breathing control and contraction are worth learning anyway. When contracting, you should breathe shallowly and quickly, and when there are no contractions, breathe slowly and as deeply as possible. The more a woman concentrates on correct breathing, the more likely she will forget about pain. If we add the right body position to breathing, perhaps we will win the fight against pain. Sitting, standing or squatting are positions in which your baby comes into the world much faster and easier. In the first phase of labor, when your cervix is relaxing, you need to move around, even taking a walk. Then a position is recommended in which … the force of gravity will be used. Such a position is, among others squatting or all fours. If we prefer giving birth lying down, the accompanying person should provide us with a special pillow for the head and stomach.

Pain during childbirth: baths and massages

Doctors mention warm baths, massages and music as the most effective methods of fighting pain. All this relaxes and relaxes. This is why water births are becoming more and more popular. Although then the time of birth is slightly longer, the baby comes into the world with much less pains and cramps. Massage also brings good results. Mostly women are massaged by their husbands or family members. It is important for such a masseur to know which point to press. So a brief birthing training course is necessary. A dozen or so minutes of a circular, slow massage with the addition of oil is enough to make the pain disappear.

Pain in labor: aromatherapy and homeopathy as wellhypnosis

The novelties include aromatherapy and homeopathy. Supposedly, like nothing else, it relaxes and soothes the pain with the scent of violets or lavender. These can be lavender wardrobe fragrances, bath liquids or incense sticks. A few days before giving birth, it is worth making an infusion of dried flowers (such mixtures can be purchased at a pharmacy or cosmetic store). 20-minute inhalation will completely relieve the muscles and joints. Some mothers-to-be also decide to undergo hypnosis and even acupuncture. During the first one, the pregnant woman is put into controlled sleep. The hypnotist separates her from external stimuli and focuses on the fear of childbirth. A few sessions are enough to expect the first contractions with longing, not with panic. When it comes to acupuncture, inserting tiny needles is supposed to stimulate the brain to produce endorphin, a hormone with an analgesic effect. Pain resistance appears already a quarter of an hour after the procedure, but it is not a method for every pregnant woman.

Worth knowing

The use of homeopathy is inconsistent with Evidence Based Medicine (EBM). When choosing homeopathy, you cannot abandon conventional therapies for which there is reliable evidence for their safety and efficacy. Homeopathy should not be used, especially in the treatment of chronic, serious or potentially serious diseases.

Oxygen for pain in labor

You can decide on the so-called TENS, or transcutaneous electrical simulation. It sounds threatening, but it's not. Neither for mum nor for her baby. TENS consists of four flat electrodes that must be glued to the back. When connected to electricity, a slight electrical stimulus is sent through the electrodes. Mom's only sensation is tickling. In the first phase of labor, TENS is completely sufficient for most women. Later, however, it is worth helping to fight the pain with something else. For several years in the West, and recently in Poland, entonox - a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide - has been used. Entonox is inhaled through a special mouthpiece. It is completely safe and works well in almost every phase of labor. The mixture is best inhaled just before the upcoming contraction.

Important

Until a hundred years ago, in Scotland, women giving birth were given chloroform. Even Queen Victoria gave birth this way. In the same Scotland, the method of childbirth during… dance is becoming more and more popular. Movements to the rhythm of the music relax the uterus and allow the baby to be born almost painlessly.
