4. the week of pregnancy is the moment of implantation of a fertilized cell in the uterine cavity. At the moment, the tiny cell is less than half a millimeter in diameter, but it keeps dividing, multiplying and growing. The period from the 4th week of pregnancy to the 8th week is called the embryonic period.

4. week of pregnancy: how is your baby developing?
W4. 7 days after fertilization, the zygote reaches the uterus and starts the process of implantation in its mucosa. The so-called blastocyst implantation process takes about 5-6 days.
The embryo usually implies in the upper back wall of the uterine body, in the mucosa, which is hyperemic and rich in mucus at this point in the cycle.
Thanks to this, they have a chance to nourish themselves with substances in the uterine endometrium - without it, they were not able to survive on their own. The implantation culminates in the division of the cell into the embryo and the part that will form the placenta.
In the 4th week of pregnancy, the embryo develops very quickly - this is the beginning of the so-called the period of organogenesis, i.e. the formation of organs and internal systems:
- successive divisions of three types of cells take place, which lead to the formation of the nuclei of the human nervous system and the human brain, to the development of the digestive system and the most important organs, and to the formation of muscles, skeleton and circulatory system. This is a very important moment, because at this time possible developmental defects appear, so it is so important not to expose the embryo to the harmful effects of drugs, alcohol or other undesirable factors in the first weeks of fetal life
- a pregnancy bubble is formed. It is the envelope surrounding the embryo and is approx. 3-4 mm in diameter. The follicle grows as long as no problems arise. It may happen that there is no embryo in it, which means a very early miscarriage caused by genetic defects that prevent the embryo from developing. Typically, such an early miscarriage occurs before the woman even realizes she is pregnant. If, however, everything goes well and the woman suspects that fertilization has taken place, she will succeeda gynecologist in the 4th week of pregnancy, it is possible that the specialist will see the pregnancy vesicle in her uterus on the ultrasound image.

So it's better to book the date in advance. Even if you have not yet confirmed your pregnancy, avoid the risks: do not take any medications, even over-the-counter ones, containing acetylsalicylic acid or ibuprofen, and try to avoid cigarette smoke, i.e. do not be a passive smoker and, above all, do not smoke yourself.
- Drugs during pregnancy: what drugs are safe to take during pregnancy?
If you have not avoided tobacco so far, do your best to quit. Research shows that children of smokers are born smaller, weaker, and are more likely to suffer from allergies and respiratory diseases in the future.
