12. week of pregnancy is the time when you may have the first problems fastening your jeans. No wonder, your body changes as your little one grows, and they are now about the size of a lime.

12. week of pregnancy: how is your baby developing?

As every week, also in the 12th week of pregnancy, the baby's internal organs grow and improve. The kidneys, heart and organs of the digestive system are more and more efficient, as they can already take glucose from the amniotic fluid.

There are also changes in the appearance of the fetus and its behavior - the baby can suck his own thumb, wrinkle his forehead and move his mouth as if he was smiling.

  • the fingers, so far connected with the membrane, separate - the baby already has nails and hair on his head
  • bones that were soft harden
  • external genitalia appear, which will soon identify the child's gender
  • vocal cords form
  • the pituitary gland starts producing its own hormones and the boys' testicles start producing testosterone
  • If you have an ultrasound scan in the 12th week of pregnancy, you will be able to listen to your baby's heartbeat. You will be touched by this sound, so you may not notice how different it is from what we are used to when we think about the work of this muscle.

Fetal heart beats twice as fast as an adult's heart - approx. 120-140 beats per minute.

12. week of pregnancy: what's happening to you?

Although you do not see your tummy at 12 weeks of pregnancy, you feel that your waist circumference has increased, so wearing old pants or skirts may be a problem.

You don't have to buy maternity clothes right away, elastic skirts or leggings are enough, but make sure not to compress your belly with tight clothing.

  • Pregnant beauty: what skin problems may arise during pregnancy?

Changing your body shape is related to a process in your pelvic region - its ligaments stretch to make room for your baby, which you may feel as pain on both sides of your abdomen.

You are now in the 12th week, i.e. in the 3rd month of pregnancy

In addition to the typical pregnancy symptoms at week 12pregnancy, you may notice a nosebleed or even runny nose - although you do not feel a cold.

This is due to the high level of estrogen and progesterone, which leads to increased blood flow.

This results in swelling and congestion of the mucosa, and consequently - bleeding and increased production of nasal secretions.

You can take vitamin C, which strengthens the blood vessels and also improves immunity, which may be weaker than usual during pregnancy.

Also remember that you may now have fluctuations in pressure, which can manifest as fainting and dizziness (thanks to the increased blood flow, it reaches the baby faster, but it returns to the heart and brain more slowly).

When you change your position sharply, for example when you jump out of bed, it may darken in front of your eyes. So avoid such situations and before you get up from lying down to standing position, sit in bed for a while.

12. week of pregnancy: the most important recommendations

Remember about supplements, e.g. DHA acid, which is present in most pregnancy preparations.

DHA influences the development of the child's retina and is the main building block of the child's brain. In addition, it has a beneficial effect on the baby's he alth in the future - it prevents allergies and diseases of the upper respiratory tract.

It also reduces the risk of early delivery and postnatal depression in a woman. DHA acid is found in marine fish, unfortunately - the fish diet will not provide you with sufficient doses.

Your doctor will probably tell you about supplementing with other important ingredients.

About now you should report to him for your second appointment. You will have blood and urine test results that will help your gynecologist to check if you are missing, for example, iron.

This visit is very important for another reason as well. You only found out a month ago that you were pregnant. Over the last few weeks you have surely piled up a lot of questions and doubts that you would like to ask.

Remember that no book or internet can replace a conversation with a specialist, so don't hesitate to ask him even stupid, in your opinion, questions.
