Every pregnant woman waits for the first fetal movements. Kicks, stretching, flips - this is how the baby in the belly gives the future mother a sign: "I am, I feel good". When should fetal movements appear in pregnancy? What to do when the fetal movements are weak or you cannot feel them at all?

Fetal movementsin your first pregnancy, you will probably feel around 20th week of pregnancy. Once you have a baby, it may be a little earlier, between 14 and 18 weeks of pregnancy. It was also observed thatmovements of the baby are felt more clearly and moreby slim women, while those with the placenta is located on the front wall of the uterus (it creates a kind of pillow that cushions the baby's movements).

First fetal movements

Initially, the signals sent by the fetus are very delicate. You may feel them as throbbing, gurgling, or something like a pop inside your belly. Your baby's movements become more noticeable around the 5th month of pregnancy. And they become stronger and more regular day by day. By the end of the second trimester, you will clearly feel the fetus moving freely: it kicks, stretches, turns and even flips.

A child's movements are such daily exercises and are very important for their development. They help shape the muscles, joints, bones and internal organs of the baby.

Feeling the baby's movements is also extremely important for a mother-to-be. It provides her with many emotions, strengthens the bond with the unborn child and allows her to feel like a mother even before giving birth. Although the creature sometimes grows in its belly does a good job, which can be painful, for example when a child hits the stomach with its leg.

Fetal movements in advanced pregnancy

As your pregnancy progresses, your baby's movements become smoother and smoother as he has less and less space in his abdomen. The little one does not kick the dumbbells anymore, but rather fidgets, stretches, tries to stretch his legs and handles, pushes his elbows out, sticks his bottom out …

If your pregnancy is abnormal, you have diabetes, high blood pressure or your due date has passed, your gynecologist will advise you to monitor your baby's movements (some clinics can provide you with special forms for this).

The abdomen then waves, larger and smaller bumps appear on it. The baby's movements are a sign that the baby is fineis developing. Usually, a woman experiences them several dozen times a day, but it is difficult to say exactly how many of them should be. Each baby has its own rhythm, because children, just like adults, have different temperaments. Some are calmer and some are more active. It is also worth remembering that the fetus also has periods of sleep or wakefulness when it is not moving at all. Moms generally think that their baby is most active in the evening. It's an illusion that they just relax more in the evening, which helps to focus on feeling the movements.

When and how to count the fetal movements?

It is also always worth counting the fetal movements if you feel that it is "silent" for too long. How should it be done? Lie on your left side two or three times a day and count all the movements (both weak and strong) for an hour. It is assumed that in the perinatal period there should be at least 10 of them. If there are fewer of them, eat a light meal - the movements should be intensified, because after eating, the glucose level rises, and this has a stimulating effect on the baby. Then lie down and count again.

When to see the doctor?

You must see a gynecologist if the 22nd week of pregnancy has passed and you do not feel your baby move yet. Symptoms are also disturbing when the activity of the fetus has decreased day by day, its movements are weaker than before, but also when they suddenly become very violent. The alarm signal is less than four movements per hour, or when you no longer feel them at all. It is then necessary to check the child's heart activity, sometimes also an ultrasound.
