Idiopathic infertility is the kind of infertility that doctors still don't understand. All tests of a couple with idiopathic infertility trying to conceive give normal results, but conception cannot be achieved. Why is this happening? There are several hypotheses, one of which is … an emotional block. How to overcome idiopathic infertility?
Idiopathic infertilityis not a disease, but rather a disorder that prevents a woman from getting pregnant for a long time. Biologically speaking, for fertilization to occur, the egg must meet the sperm at the time of ovulation, i.e. around the middle of the menstrual cycle. If we have a textbook every 28 days, it should be expected that the so-called fertile days will be 12-16 days of the cycle. If we menstruate every 25 days - between days 10 and 13. To be sure if it's "today", sometimes it is enough to do a little math and test the quality of the mucus in the vagina. If it stretches like jelly, and it is also transparent, then there is nothing to wait for, just get to work! Of course, fertile days may be slightly different in every woman (slightly swollen breasts, greater desire for sex), but every person who dreams of having a baby knows more or less when is the best time for love. So what is the problem withidiopathic infertility ?
Diagnosis of idiopathic infertility
Sometimes it happens that although we know our menstrual cycle perfectly well - calculating the days, measuring the temperature and viewing mummy mucus in one finger - and on "this day" we have sex with passion, even several times, we somehow cannot get into pregnancy. And it has been going on month after month for a very long time. Then it begins to dawn on us that I think we have a problem. Is it infertility? Can it be cured?
In such a situation, you should see a doctor to find the cause of infertility. Not only a woman should go to an appointment, but also her partner, because it is much easier to find a disorder in a man. And the cause of infertility lies on the part of men as often as women.
1. Semen analysis
It is a non-invasive test - the man takes a semen sample himself while masturbating. In the labsperm is tested for:
- sperm quantity, structure and motility,
- sperm pH,
- white blood cell content in ejaculate,
- fructose content in sperm,
- of the volume of a single ejaculate,
- ejaculate liquefaction time,
- semen is also cultured for the presence of fungi, bacteria and other microorganisms.
2. Diagnostics in a woman
If, after examining the semen, the doctor finds no potential reason for the man's inability to conceive a child, he will start the diagnosis of the woman.
Must be done:
- basic gynecological examination of the structure of the reproductive organs of a woman - palpation, with the help of a speculum - e.g. determination of the uterine position (anterior- or retroflex), the condition of the cervix - USG;
- laboratory tests: hormone levels - estradiol, LH, FSH on the 3rd day of the cycle, progesterone around the 20th day of the cycle; thyroid hormones (a diseased thyroid often makes it impossible to become pregnant or deliver a pregnancy) - TSH, fT4, anti-TPO and anti-TG; prolactin level; anti-sperm antibodies;
- laparoscopic fallopian tube patency test
- HSG (hysterosalpingography), i.e. X-ray examination of the uterus and fallopian tubes.
If a low sperm quality is detected or a woman has some hormonal problems, for example, appropriate treatment is started as soon as possible and the chances of conception increase. However, if the above tests do not show any abnormalities, you can speak of idiopathic infertility, that is … without a clear, specific cause.
This will be useful to youWhat improves male fertility?
1. Diet- a man who wants to become a father should avoid highly processed foods, and choose the most natural products, rich in folic acid, omega-3 acids, vitamin C and vitamin A, L-carnitine (improves sperm motility), zinc .
2. Physical activity- several times a week (increases testosterone levels). If a man has a stressful job, it is good for him to become interested in some relaxation techniques, e.g. yoga, meditation, and sign up for a swimming pool.
3. Vitamin D- also affects the level of the male hormone, so you need to walk in the sun, remember about foods rich in this ingredient (fish, eggs) or at least supplements.
4.Avoiding hot baths and tight underwear .
5.Getting to sleep(7-8 hours of sleep per night).
Causes of Idiopathic Infertility
It is suspected that some cervical factors, such asabnormal mucus - with increased cellular immunity, factors related to the endometrium, such as abnormal blood supply to the uterus, secretion of substances toxic to the embryo by the uterus, tubal factors, such as abnormal peristalsis, unbroken Graff's follicle syndrome or excessive secretion of luteinizing hormone and prolactin despite ovulation. However, these reasons are only alleged.
Treatment of idiopathic infertility
If the doctor finally makes a diagnosis, first of all, it is necessary to determine the possibility of fertilization by artificial insemination or in vitro. According to the guidelines of European and Polish scientific societies, idiopathic infertility lasting more than 2 years when a woman is under 35 and a year when a woman is 35 years old qualifies a couple for in vitro fertilization.
Before, however, therapy is started. It is based on the fact that the expectant mother cares about an appropriate lifestyle, diet and mental condition (avoiding stress), it is also possible to stimulate the body hormonally by administering small doses of clomiphene citrate, which stimulates ovulation. Conception should be achieved within 6-12 months.
There is another method, often surprisingly effective in the case of idiopathic infertility: "letting go". Stress is the main cause of many of our problems, including, to a large extent, those related to the he alth and functioning of the body. Also in this case, when instead of making love normally, we literally fight for a child - it does not help us. Although it is easier said than done (people who really want a child live in constant tension, additionally under the pressure of family and friends), it is often the case that when we stop having sex for the sole purpose of procreation, we carefully observe the right days and hours and simply "We'll let it go", telling ourselves that what is supposed to be will happen, unexpectedly fertilization occurs.
