- How to get to the psychological clinic?
In Poland, unfortunately, we still have to deal with a certain stigmatization of the issues of mental disorders and diseases. Many people still believe that the help of a psychologist - or, even worse, the services of a psychiatrist - is used only by people who have fallen into a kind of madness or who have simply gone crazy.
Such a position is definitely unfair - in fact, basically every person can encounter situations that would be a reason to visit a psychological clinic.
What does a psychological clinic do?
The task of a psychological counseling center is primarily to help people deal with various situations that they cannot cope with themselves. Here one could exchange for a very long time - just as for one person the constant sticks on the part of superiors do not constitute a significant burden, for another they can be a source of great psychological discomfort.
It is similar in the case of the breakdown of a long-lasting relationship - one person will quickly get over this unpleasant event, while another person may despair for an exceptionally long time after leaving the partner.
The above-mentioned are only modestexamples of problems that a visit to a psychological clinic may help to solve. The task of the psychologists working there is to help, first of all, in identifying the factor responsible for the appearance of a mental crisis in the patient.
Sometimes just one visit and the consultation carried out during it bring exceptionally good results - it sometimes happens that a person is really unaware of what exactly is bothering him and the mere fact that a psychologist shows him the ones that weigh on his head, factors, it already has a beneficial effect. Sometimes, however, the problem with which the patient reports to the psychological clinic turns out to be much more complex.
In such a situation, one visit may not help, but it may be necessary to use the entire cycle of visits to a specialist. Thus, therapy is the second task of psychological clinics, apart from providing consultations. These institutions, however, also deal with a number of other tasks, including they carry out crisis interventions and organize various types of workshops. The scope of activities of individual institutions depends primarily on who they provide help to.

Psychological clinics also conduct various trainings and workshops. We are talking about such classes as, for example, social skills training, educational skills workshops or emotional intelligence training.
These institutions often also organize psychoeducation. Another therapeutic effect that can also be carried out by a psychological clinic is psychotherapy.
However, in order for a given facility to be able to provide this type of help, it is necessary that it employs specialists with appropriate certificates (just completing psychological studies and obtaining the title of psychologist is not sufficient to conduct psychotherapy - to be able to do it, it is necessary to undergo additional training and obtain the title of a psychotherapist).
Types of psychological clinics
Psychological counseling center for children
The youngest patients are most often referred to psychological clinics. In children, a number of different problems that they experience may indicate the need to visit a psychological clinic.
These facilities provide consultations and therapies for children with:
- aggressive behavior is common;
- there have been some difficult situations for them (such as, for example, their parents' divorce or the death of a certain onea close family member);
- relationships with peers are not working properly (e.g. the boy is unable to find himself in the peer group);
- deviations from the normal mental state are clearly noticeable, such as low mood or some symptoms of anxiety disorders;
- there is a tendency to frequently come into conflict with peers or household members;
- there are behaviors inconsistent with commonly accepted value systems.
In the psychological clinic it is also possible to make a psychological assessment of the child, as well as to conduct various other tests, including assessment of the child's development level (here it should be emphasized, however, that pedagogical counseling centers more often analyze the development of toddlers or their school skills).
Psychological counseling center for adults
In everyday life, adults may also encounter many different situations that may lead to their need for psychological help.
In the case of adult patients, the indications to visit a psychological clinic may be, for example:
- feeling unable to cope with everyday life;
- various emotional crises (resulting, for example, from job loss, parting with a partner or the death of a loved one);
- experiencing a constant feeling of inner anxiety;
- persistent depressed mood;
- difficulties in interpersonal relationships;
- trouble maintaining a relationship;
- the emergence of some chronic, incurable disease (e.g. diabetes) and the emergence of various concerns about it.
Psychological counseling for couples and families
The services of a psychological counseling center can be used by both individuals and groups - these centers also offer treatments for couples or even for entire families.
People who are in a relationship may visit psychological clinics for various reasons - they can be both the occurrence of a feeling of burnout of the emotional relationship between long-term spouses, frequent quarrels in the household of a newly married couple, or some communication problems in the relationship.
Entire families can also visit a psychological clinic. A visit to such a specialist facility can serve, among others, recognizing abnormal relationships in the family, and - as a result of appropriate therapy - working through such relationships and making them correct.
Parents of a child with educational difficulties - e.g. a child experiencing outbursts of aggression - canreceive educational advice, i.e. various tips on how they can react to the child's incorrect behavior and how to try to prevent it.
ImportantHow to get to the psychological clinic?
So you can probably see that you can go to a psychological clinic with many different problems - the question remains, however, how to get to such a clinic at all?
When it comes to private institutions, it is enough to simply sign up for them, but there is a problem - we will pay for such a visit, and sometimes even quite a lot.
Fortunately, there are psychological counseling centers within the NHF. However, for such facilities a referral is needed, which can be issued by virtually any doctor - the patient can be referred to the clinic by both a pediatrician, a family doctor or a psychiatrist.
