In summer, protect your eyes from the sun. One of the best ways to protect your eyes is sunglasses. However, you must remember that it is worth investing in such glasses to make sure that they have the necessary UV filters.

If we put ondark lenseswithout filters, suchglassescan do us more harm than good. Our pupils naturally dilate in a dark environment. Thereforedark glasseswithout protection "open" the way to dangerous UV radiation inside the eye. And here such radiation can damage delicate structures: the retina, the macula and cause irreversible changes in them.
However, in summer not onlyUV radiationposes a threat toeyes . People with visual impairments are particularly vulnerable. People who wear contact lenses often swim in the sea, pool or lake. This is a serious mistake. People usually don't realize that a contact lens is "floating" on the eye - that is, water can get between the contact lens and the cornea. Bathing in sea water, where there is a protozoan called acanthamoeba, are especially dangerous. Infection with it leads to serious damage to the cornea, which is very difficult to heal. An additional risk is that we are not always able to strictly follow the hygiene rules related to the use of lenses during the holidays. Therefore, it is worth taking daily lenses on vacation, which you can simply throw away after a single use.
We also often travel in a car with an open window. It is difficult to imagine closed windows on a hot day, when the car is not cooled by air conditioning. In such a situation, however, it is worth wearing glasses (corrective, sunglasses). They will to some extent protect the eyes against foreign body ingress. And it is not only about a small insect, but also dust or stone chips.
First aid is also important in the event of an eye injury. Therefore, it is worth having disposable vials with saline solution and sterile dressings in the holiday first aid kit. When we cannot handle the removal of the foreign body ourselves or we are not sure if we have managed to do it correctly, there is nothing to wait for - you need to go to an ophthalmologist as soon as possible or for an acuteduty to the nearest hospital.
And when we got rid of the vision defect with laser correction? Can we rest in peace, swim in the sea or in a swimming pool, fly by plane? It all depends on the time that has passed since the correction surgery. It is worth remembering that we can get on the plane on the second day after the surgery, but this does not mean that we can go on vacation immediately. You need to wait about 3 weeks with swimming in public reservoirs (swimming pool, sea, lake). During this time, the cornea will heal and the risk of infection - and therefore complications - is minimal. In summer, usually more people are interested in laser correction. This is due to the fact that it is the holiday season (so students have free time from classes) and holidays. It is easier for patients to organize their time in such a way as to take advantage of the summer to get rid of glasses and to rest. Therefore, if we want to enjoy the holidays and he althy eyes, it is better to plan the treatment a bit earlier.
