Tartar builds up even on carefully washed teeth. Remove it regularly in the office. Scaling - the tartar removal procedure - does not really hurt. And if the scale is not removed, it can cause problems, e.g. parodontosis.

A few minutes after brushingteetha protein film begins to form on them. It is a matrix on which plaque is deposited, consisting of exfoliating epidermis, food debris and bacteria. After 2 hours, a whitish deposit is felt with the tongue. This is the first stage of tartar formation. Saliva protects you from its build-up to some extent, as it destroys bacteria that accumulate in it and washes away part of the plaque. The plaque is also rubbed off the cheeks and lips when moving the jaw.

Tartar - how is it formed?

Plaque left on the teeth mineralizes - begins to harden and turns intotartar . Untreated, it is first visible in the form of a darker rim at the edge of the gums. This is a supragingival stone. But the tartar hidden under the gums is more dangerous because it can cause inflammation. Then, when we brush our teeth or bite our food, blood appears, we feel disgust and the bad smell of our breath. Over time, the tooth necks (roots) become exposed. They are sensitive to temperature changes as well as sweet and sour foods. Eventually, periodontitisdevelops and, if left untreated, you risk losing your teeth. To protect yourself from such a situation, use special medicated toothpastes containing aluminum lactate. You can buy them at pharmacies.

Look for the reasons for the formation of tartar in your genes and … your diet

Tartar builds up in every human being. Even dentists don't know any secret ways to protect themselves from it. However, the time in which it is formed is an individual feature. It depends on genetic tendencies, the composition and amount of saliva secreted, malocclusion, poorly made dentures or fillings. What you eat also matters. The build-up of stone is favored by eating carbohydrates and … dairy products, which thicken the saliva. So if you are a gourmand and like pasta, brush your teeth after a meal and chew sugar-free gum. And visit the dentist every six months! If tartar builds up very quickly, it should be removed more often.

Important

Microbes that nest in tartarcan weaken internal organs, especially the heart. They cause, among others endocarditis and promote cardiovascular disease.

Scaling - tartar removal method

The basic method of removing tartar is scaling, i.e. removing it mechanically in the office. It can be done using traditional dental tools (cost about PLN 100), but then the procedure is not performed accurately. That is why ultrasonic scaling is most often performed (PLN 60-180 for one visit). The head of the cleaning device produces ultrasounds that break the stone (the same effect is when the crystals break from the singer's high voice).
People with exposed necks, sensitive teeth or those who feel fear at all should ask for anesthesia. It is much lighter than, for example, when removing a tooth, but it is enough to avoid pain. The doctor may use spray or gel anesthesia with lignocaine. The teeth should be smoothed after each scaling. This is called sandblasting (PLN 60-140). Cleaning the teeth from calculus should be completed with fluoridation (PLN 50-120).
When the teeth are covered with a thick layer of stone, the procedure is carried out in several stages. Those who want to remove only plaque from cigarette smoke, coffee, tea or red wine from their teeth can only undergo sandblasting. Here, however, important information for patients with asthma and allergies - it is necessary to inform the dentist about it. Dust released during the procedure may cause an attack of breathlessness.

You must do it

Massage gums

Every day, for example with a soft toothbrush. It is also good to massage them with your finger (after washing your hands thoroughly). It is enough to press the gums lightly for a few minutes - from the jaw to the edge of the teeth. When they are irritated, you can use healing gels for massage.

Secrets of daily care

You won't run away from tartar, but you can reduce its build-up. The basis is the daily and careful cleaning of the teeth: the use of dental floss, punches, appropriate pastes. Brushing your teeth should take at least 2-3 minutes. Thorough cleaning with the use of accessories takes approx. 10 minutes.
Choose the toothpaste as you like, but when calculus builds up quickly on your teeth, it's best to buy those that contain chlorhexadine - a chemical that destroys the structure of the stone. In order for as little plaque to settle on the teeth as possible, it is better to choose an electric brush (150-250 PLN), because it cleans more thoroughly. People with hypersensitive teeth (also those suffering from periodontitis or gum diseases) should opt for an ultrasonic brush (about PLN 350).
The language also requires care, because there is just as much on itbacteria on the teeth, and a coating on the tongue can cause bad breath. If you don't have a tongue scraper, we can use a toothbrush - but not the same toothbrush.
Finish washing by rinsing the mouth. Choose fluids that are anti-caries, bactericidal and anti-limescale. Using the liquid before brushing your teeth will loosen the plaque and make it easier to remove. For rinsing, you can also use water with potassium permanganate (a few grains) or chamomile or sage infusion.
