I am planning a pregnancy and I am anemic. How should I take care of myself and for what period before pregnancy?

Before you get pregnant, you should find the causes of anemia and supplement the deficiencies of iron, folic acid or B12. For the proper development of the baby, it is important to prevent anemia before pregnancy, to test the morphology, ferritin and transferrin. In getting rid of anemia, it is important to have a proper diet rich in iron, folic acid, vitamin B12 and vitamin C.

The best digestible iron is found in meat products (beef, liver, offal), but also in beetroot juice, broccoli, spinach and legumes. Iron is better absorbed in the presence of vitamin C, so you can eat citrus fruits, raspberries, blueberries and tomatoes. The body absorbs iron of animal origin much better than that of plant origin. Sometimes the diet is not enough and you have to use pharmacological support. It is important that the appropriate dose is determined by the doctor.
