There are many microorganisms in the human body. Among them we can find lactic acid bacteria that inhabit the digestive tract. Why bacteria in our intestines? Well, bacteria and humans have created a tandem of mutual benefit. Speaking of preparations of lactic acid bacteria, it is worth paying attention to which ones we use. We can reach for the so-called PROBIOTICS - preparations containing only bacteria. However, it is worth choosing enriched preparations with lactic acid bacteria, the so-called SYNBIOTICS.

What is the difference between a synbiotic and a probiotic?

Synbiotic is a beneficial "2 in 1" combination. In one preparation we find a combination of beneficial lactic acid bacteria (probiotic) and a medium on which they can grow. Thanks to the presence of this medium, i.e. Prebiotic probiotic bacteria have the right conditions for the development and maintenance of high activity. Synbiotics are more effective than probiotics and restore the body's microbial balance faster.

How to choose a good synbiotic

Follow the same guidelines as when choosing probiotics, that is: the composition - the greater the number of strains of probiotic bacteria, the better, because the properties of probiotics are strain-dependent. And the intestinal microflora is individually variable. It is also important how much of the probiotic actually ends up in the intestines. Before probiotic bacteria enter the intestines, they are exposed to a very low pH of gastric juice, which deactivates most of them. Secondly, you can look at the price and possible storage outside the refrigerator.
The synbiotic should be used throughout the duration of antibiotic therapyand at least 1-2 weeks after its completion. Only then will we be sure that our digestive flora has been restored.
