Allergy profile is blood tests that detect food allergy and more. The allergic profile allows you to determine what specific allergen is the cause of the allergy (e.g. nuts, grass pollen, mites, dog hair), and also to control the allergy treatment process. Find out what the allergy profile is and how to interpret the test results.
Allergic profileis a blood test that allows you to determine whether a person with allergy symptoms is allergic (or struggling with some disease), what specific allergen is the cause of the hypersensitivity and to control the allergy treatment process.
The allergic profile consists of the total antibody concentration - cIgE - which allows a general identification of allergies. However, the determination of total IgE concentration is currently of little importance in the diagnosis of allergic diseases.
The basis for the initial diagnosis is the determination of specific antibodies - sIgE. Specific IgE are proteins that are produced during the first contact with a given allergen, e.g. pollen. Then they lead to its destruction. However, after it is destroyed, some of the antibodies remain in the blood permanently. When an allergen comes into contact again, it binds with the remaining IgE antibodies in the blood, triggering a severe allergic reaction.
Allergens for the determination of specific IgE are grouped into several panels - food, respiratory (inhalation), pediatric (mixed), atopic.
Allergic profile - indications
An allergic profile should be performed in patients with symptoms suggestive of allergy, such as runny nose, watery eyes, diarrhea or abdominal pain after eating some food, extensive skin lesions (severe itching of the skin, dry skin, eczema) or a tendency to become overactive skin. In the latter two cases, blood allergy tests are a good alternative to skin tests, which may be false-positive or cause adverse reactions (including life-threatening anaphylactic shock). The allergic profile is also indicated in people with suspected allergy to insect venoms, cat hair or medications (beta-lactam antibiotics).
The allergic profile allows you to detect allergy early, monitor its development and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.
Allergic profile - IgE testingtotal (cIgE)
Increased level of total IgE may indicate the presence of one of the typical allergic diseases in the patient. However, you should know that it also occurs in non-atopic forms of asthma, helminthiasis, in some immunological deficiencies and pulmonary aspergillosis.

Allergic profile - test results Total IgE: up to 0.0003 g / l. Interpretation of specific IgE results should be done by a physician. IMPORTANT! The allergic profile neither fully confirms nor completely excludes allergies. To confirm the diagnosis, the physician should perform an elimination and provocation attempt while observing the symptoms.
