Recovery from a car accident takes time because it is not easy to organize your life from scratch. Facing disability after a road accident and adapting to a changed reality takes a long time and requires support. See what institutions will help you deal with such a situation.

The disability acquired as a result of an accident makes it impossible to perform the previous activities in the same way, both in private and professional life. This may result from objective difficulties in continuing the current work and lifestyle, but also from the problem with adapting to the new reality.

How to deal with difficulties in 7 points is advised by Agata Spała - an expert on employing people with disabilities, co-author of the PZU report "Winning life".

1. You have the right to depression after a car accident

Maybe you think it can't get any worse, maybe you are indifferent to everything, maybe you don't want to see others, maybe you just want to sleep so as not to think so as not to feel … Depression often occurs among the survivors a traumatic event, which is an accident, and as a result they lost their efficiency. Depression should not be ashamed of itself and should not be taken lightly. Seek help from a psychologist or psychotherapist. It is a will to fight for yourself, not a weakness!

2. Life after a car accident: get help

Look for support both in the immediate vicinity and institutions that help victims of accidents. There are a number of non-governmental organizations and foundations that you can turn to: the Zielony Liść Foundation (www.fundacjazielonylisc.org) or the "Nadzieja" Foundation for Help for the Injured People in Traffic Accidents (www.fundacjanadzieja.com). Help is also provided by insurers.

3. Life after a car accident: search for information

Remember that people with disabilities are en titled to various types of funding and en titlements to help them return to an active life. Ask about them at Poviat Family Assistance Centers, Employment Offices, Branches of the State Fund for Rehabilitation of Disabled People and non-governmental organizations that work for people with disabilities or injured in accidents. You can turn to the "Tacy Sami" Foundation (www.tacysami.org.pl) or Poza HoryzontyJasiek Mela Foundation (www.pozahoryzonty.org).

You should know about the possibility of obtaining a disability certificate, assistance for disability benefits, allowances and "living" support, and the removal of architectural barriers. Familiarize yourself with the allowances and rights you are en titled to due to acquired disability (tax, communication and other). Information can be found at: www.pfron.org.pl, www.pcpr.pl, www.scon.waw.pl, www.cpon.org.pl.

4. After the accident, take care of medical rehabilitation and appropriate equipment

Exercise, take care of yourself, fight for your own independence and mobility. Properly selected and quickly started rehabilitation will help reduce the negative effects of injuries. Also take care of the appropriate rehabilitation equipment. If, as a result of an accident, you have to use a wheelchair, make sure that it is adjusted to your needs and gives you the opportunity to move as much as possible on your own.

How to choose the right stroller? Find information at the Active Rehabilitation Foundation (www.far.org.pl).

5. After the accident, try to return to professional activity

Even if your he alth condition prevents you from doing the same job as before the accident - it does not mean that you will never work again! Meet with a career counselor. Define your own abilities, skills and predispositions. Plan with an advisor how you can use them on the labor market and together prepare an individual action plan that will help plan and organize the process of returning to work. Development of new skills as part of the so-called a rehabilitation internship or participation in vocational activation programs for people with disabilities will bring benefits. Look for support at Employment Offices, foundations and associations that deal with professional activation, such as the Activation Foundation (www.aktywalizacja.org) or the Association "Disabled for the Environment EKON" (www.ekon.org.pl).

6. Don't let yourself be excluded

Take advantage of social rehabilitation. Its most important goal is to restore independence and independence as fully as possible. It should develop personal resourcefulness, stimulate activity and teach you how to fulfill social roles anew. Support includes motivating a disabled person to become involved in social life by participating in various forms of meetings, workshops, support groups or self-help groups. This will help build self-esteem and accept your disability. It will also be an opportunity to meet other people, which will counteract loneliness and exclusion.

7. After a car accident, do not give up your passion

Having a temporary or even permanent disability doesn't mean you have togive up on life. Do you want to dive, parachute, tango, ski or bike? It is possible - another way, but still possible. Try it, look for opportunities and contact. Discover your artistic soul with the Foundation for the Promotion of Artistic Culture of Disabled People (www.mazowiacy.com). Sail with the crew of the Polish Disabled Sailors' Association (www.PZZN.pl) or dive with the Nautica Association (www.st Stowarzyszenie.nautica.pl).

Do you want to dance? Look for information at the SWING Wheelchair Dance School (www.swing.com.pl). You will do the driving license course with the support of the Association for Help for Disabled Drivers SPINKA (www.spinka.org.pl). Get involved in the activities of selected organizations and develop your interests.
