Gastric balloon , facilitatingweight reduction, i.e. slimming , is made of a material resistant to stomach acids, but it can still be inserted for a period not exceeding 6 months and should be removed by the endoscopic method before this date. This method of obesity treatment is intended to support weight loss by inducing a feeling of fullness due to partial filling of the stomach with a balloon. The success of this method largely depends on the concurrent use of a long-term diet and changes in eating habits. However, it is not always possible to insert a gastric balloon.

Gastric balloon: the course of the treatment
Placing a balloon into the stomach is a non-surgical procedure. The patient is prepared for it in the same way as for the gastroscopy procedure. The procedure takes about 20-30 minutes. and is performed under the supervision of an anaesthesiologist, under short intravenous anesthesia, after premedication. The procedure of inserting a gastric balloon itself is preceded by a diagnostic gastroscopy, because the possible occurrence of ulceration or inflammatory changes in the gastric mucosa makes it impossible to put on the balloon. If there are no contraindications, a balloon is inserted through the throat and esophagus into the stomach using an endoscope. It is then filled with sterile saline solution 400 cm³ to 700 cm³.
Gastric balloon: diet after treatment
A liquid diet is recommended in the first 24 hours after the balloon has been attached. Then, 5-6 meals a day, each small in volume. If you have a gastric balloon, you should follow theexcluding sweets, fatty and spicy foods and alcohol. A patient with a balloon is under the outpatient care of a doctor and dietitian, especially in the first days, when he may experience undesirable symptoms related to the poorly tolerated presence of the balloon implant. These symptoms are most often nausea and vomiting, and require antispasmodics and antiemetics. These symptoms usually disappear after a few days. Sometimes, however, they force the implant to be removed prematurely.
