Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), or rheumatoid arthritis, is an autoimmune disease that, contrary to its name, does not only affect the joints. The disease is accompanied by many extra-articular symptoms that are often ignored. Here are the most common ailments.

1. Unusual RA symptoms: Numbness or tingling in fingers and toes

This type of ailment may appear even with a well-treated disease, and also in the period of remission, i.e. the symptoms disappear.

2. Unusual symptoms of RA: eye problems

Patients have episcleritis and scleritis, which may even lead to perforation of the eyeball, as well as keratitis and choroiditis. Most often, however, it is the so-called dry eye syndrome. Treatment depends on the type of disease and should always be performed by an experienced ophthalmologist. In the case of dry eye syndrome, troublesome symptoms can be relieved by using regular eye drops, commonly known as artificial tears.

3. Unusual symptoms of RA: excessive dryness of the skin and its distinct redness in the area of the joints

The skin of a person suffering from rheumatoid arthritis does not require specialist treatment, but only careful care and constant moisturizing. Instead of bathing in a tub, it's better to use a shower. After each spraying, the skin should be dried and the skin still wet should be carefully applied with a lotion. The use of cosmetics for sensitive or prone to atopy skin brings relief.

4. Unusual symptoms of RA: inflammation also affects blood vessels

Sometimes they are so advanced that on the EKG they can imitate a heart attack. The weakening of the vessels by persistent inflammation may also lead to unfavorable changes in important organs, e.g. kidneys, lungs. Patients are diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, pericarditis and pleurisy. Therefore, regular inspections of the condition of these organs are necessary.

5. Unusual RA symptoms: insomnia and sweating

You can alleviate insomnia by observing sleep hygiene and by supporting yourself - after consulting your doctor - with sleeping pills. Troublesome sweating is difficult to prevent, but it's always worth using good deodorants.
