Tinder is an application that has been enabling singles (and others) to make new friends for several years. Tinder can be used not only to meet a potential beloved, but also to meet interesting people living nearby or, as some users admit, to make friends for one night. Read what a tinder is and learn how the app works.

Tinderis an application that was created in 2012 on the initiative of five friends: Sean Rada, Chris Gulczynski, Joe Munoz, Jonathan Badeen and Whitney Wolf. From the English "tinder" means "kindling", "flash point" and this is also how the application is supposed to work: kindle friends.

Tinder: what is this?

Tinder is a dating app available for Android and iOS operating systems. Although it would seem that only singles want to date, it turns out that they are not the only ones who use Tinder. According to a study conducted in 2022 by the research agency IRCenter1 , only 58% of Tinder users are unmarried, and another 4% are divorced. What about the rest? As many as 22% of people using the application are married, and 19% - in a partnership. 30% of all Tinder users are either a mother or a father.

What is more, the Tinder application on their cells is mainly downloaded by people living in medium and large cities, the largest group are the youngest - 48% of all users of Tinder are people aged 18 to 24.

Rural residents account for 13% of application users. The study, which, it is worth adding, was conducted only among Polish women and Poles (the sample was 2,100 people) also showed that Tinder is used by ambitious and modern people. Those who are not afraid of changes in their lives and are willing to take on new challenges.

The majority of Tinder users are men - 55% of all people using the application.

In the basic version, Tinder is free, which probably helped him gain such a huge number of users - in 2022, Tinder already had over 20 billion pairs on the counter. How is this possible when there are "only" 7 billion people in the world? Well, on TinderYou can pair up with many people, so in fact one person can have even several hundred pairs. However, from pairing on Tinder to making friends in the so-called the real way is long. Why and how does it work?

Tinder: How does it work?

1. Login

Using Tinder should not be a problem for anyone who uses the Internet on a daily basis. The application interface is very clear. We start, of course, with registration, and then - logging in. Until now, to set up an account on Tinder, you also had to have a Facebook account (it is worth noting that despite logging in via this social networking site, activity on Tinder is not recorded on Facebook in any way, so there is no need to worry about the fact that " friends will watch us "). Recently, you can also register on Tinder using a phone number, so an account on FB is not necessary.

2. Photos and description

After logging in to Tinder, go to editing your profile. The first step is to add photos that seem to be the most important element of this website - while browsing the profiles of potential dating and dating women, the user first catches the eye of a large photo of a given person. Of course, the photos can also not be added, but then the chances of a pick-up are negligible. Some people do not add their photos, but illustrations, animations, moms, but they promise to send their photos in a private discussion.

Tinder tells you which photos to add - it pulls them from the person's Facebook profile, but you can easily (with one click) remove some or all of them or add your photos from outside the popular social networking site. What's more, it is also possible to use the Smart Photos function, which will itself choose, in its opinion, the best photos of a given person from FB and display them first.

After the photos it's time to describe yourself - also optional, but especially if it's funny or intriguing, increasing the chances of getting to know the other half. In the description, you can write about your interests, character traits, what you are looking for in the other person and what you definitely do not. It is also a place to mark the purpose of your stay on Tinder: whether it is finding a partner, or maybe just friends for friends, or lovers for one night, or to go crazy as swingers or in a polyamorous relationship. The imagination of Tinder users knows no bounds in this regard.

3. Other profile preferences

Tinder also allows you to add, right after the description, your workplace (which is automatically downloaded from Facebook, so in order not to share this information, it should bedelete your profile), similarly, information about completed schools appears - if you do not want to share it, it is also necessary to delete it separately.

If a Tinder user's FB account is linked to his Instagram account, Instagram photos will also be visible on the profile. As above, it is possible to remove this link.

Additionally, a Tinder user can mark their favorite song and add their favorite artists from the Spotify application.

In the "control my profile" settings it is possible to mark that we do not want other users to see our age and the distance we are from them.

Worth knowing

Tinder Gender Settings

Editing your Tinder profile also requires you to specify your gender. Polish women and Poles can choose between two: a woman or a man, but in Spain, France, Germany and Australia, after consultations with representatives of the LGBT + community, the possibility of entering also other genders was introduced.

The creators of Tinder wanted to point out that non-binary, transgender people are also welcome as application users. Just choose "more" instead of "woman" or "man" and enter your gender there. This solution has not been introduced in Poland yet, but it should soon appear in our country.

4. Account settings

All the above data are entered in "profile editing" - once they are saved, you can go to "settings". In the settings, you select the gender of the partner you are looking for - according to this choice, the application will show men or women or men and women - so any person can find their potential second-halves there, regardless of their sexual orientation.

Next, set the distance from the seeker to find his / her potential partner. In the free version, this distance can be up to 161 km. The next step is the age range in which the person is to be searched for - it is from 18 to 55.

In turn, unchecking the automatically selected option "show my profile on Tinder" will prevent other people from seeing the profile, but it will still be possible to chat with previously selected pairs.

5. Partner selection

After going through all the settings (which literally takes a few minutes) you can finally choose your partner. Just click on the firelight in the middle of the screen and start hunting.

Tinder shows exactly those people who match the preferences marked earlier: a given gender, at a specific distance and expected age. If we like someone, just slide itwith your finger on the screen to the right or select the heart, if you reject a given candidate or candidate - move to the left or select a red cross.

Importantly, the selected person does not know that someone has marked her as his pair until he himself, sooner or later, does not see the profile of the person who also chose him and does not choose the right option. Then both people are told "Congratulations, you have a new pair" and can start texting each other on Tinder from there. If one person selects the other without reciprocity, the other person will not know about it.

Unless we send her a super-like - in the basic version, each user can send it once a day, but thanks to him, the other person, even if they did not like us, immediately sees who they got such a super-like from. If she is also enthusiastic about the person expressing sympathy, she can quickly repay her by swiping to the right.

Exchanging messages on Tinder is very similar to the Facebook Messenger app, only in a slightly more raw version. Choosing a couple does not mean, however, that the meeting will take place in reality - not always one of the couple has the courage to write to the other, sometimes the partners only arrange a one-time meeting - there is no rule here. Some people even have several hundred pairs, because they prefer to mark a given person, and then possibly give up the relationship.

Is it easier for women on Tinder?

Although Western civilization is considered the most "equal" and a lot is changing in terms of male-female relations, there is still a common belief that a man should be the party trying to make friends. Women find it easier to get likes on Tinder, men text them more often.

The experiment in this application was conducted by the creators of the whetever YouTube channel. They created a fictitious account of a very attractive woman and a very attractive man - what were the results? See for yourself!

You can also cancel the previously made selection and use the free boost once a month, which is an option that gives you the value for 30 minutesa person super visible in the area - during this short period of time the profile is displayed by up to 60% more users than in the standard version.

Tinder Goldis a version with all possible options, costing PLN 150 per month. What do you get from it? Who is this app for?

The opinion of the application stuck to Tinder, which is effective for making short friends, but for people looking for a lasting relationship it may be more difficult. This is not entirely true - the application is a democratic tool to which, at least in the free version, most people have free access. People are different, and different goals can be achieved with Tinder. There will also be those who want to find their other half permanently.
