What you can do in pregnancy and what you are not allowed to do? Can you wear seat belts, dye your hair, go to the swimming pool when you are pregnant? You surely hear a lot of good advice every day about what a pregnant woman can do - both from your loved ones and from completely random people. But be careful, some of them are myths and superstitions!
Do not dye your hair while pregnant, because the paint may harm your baby
There is no evidence of this. The dye penetrates the hair but does not penetrate the skin, so you can use it without fear. However, if you prefer to be safe than sorry, wait until the second trimester of pregnancy to dye your hair, because then the baby's most important organs are already shaped. When dyeing your hair, be careful not to inhale the ammonia contained in the dye (or buy coloring shampoos that contain less ammonia). If you color your hair at home, ask someone to help you so you don't have to bend down. Coloring should be done in a well-ventilated room.
Note!It may happen that the dyeing effect is different than expected - it is the effect of hormones. Therefore, first try the new shade on a small strand and then apply the paint all over your head.
When pregnant, do not use intimate cleansing fluids, because it sensitizes the mucous membranes and may cause mycosis
On the contrary - intimate hygiene cosmetics are indispensable during pregnancy, because during this period you are more susceptible than ever to inflammation of the vaginal mucosa. A special gel or liquid is better than soap because it does not dry out the mucous membranes. During pregnancy, we recommend those that contain ingredients that soothe irritation: calendula or chamomile.
Do not play with the dog, you can catch diseases that cause premature birth
A well-groomed, clean and dewormed dog is not a threat. However, it is worth washing your hands thoroughly after playing with it. You should definitely avoid stray animals due to the risk of rabies.
Do not get flu while pregnant or you will get it
Pregnant women should be vaccinated against influenza. The vaccine is recommended from the second trimester (a doctor should decide on vaccination in the first three months). The vaccine does not make you sick because it contains dead viruses that cannot harm you - unlike the flu, whichpregnant women may cause miscarriage or fetal death.
Warning!Check with your doctor before vaccinating yourself to make sure that there is no infection.
You shouldn't get your nails painted while pregnant, because the nail polish will damage the fetus
It is allowed to paint nails, because the nail plate is tight and the enamel is in no way able to get into the bloodstream and further to the child's body. Only for childbirth you need to wash off the varnish. If the pressure is abnormal, the skin under the nails turns blue - this is a clue to the doctor that the birth is not going well.
When pregnant, do not go to the swimming pool as you may catch a vaginal infection
It is true that there is an infection in the swimming pool, but it is also true that it is advisable to swim in the swimming pool while pregnant. Swimming greatly relieves the spine, has a great effect on the muscles, and allows you to maintain good condition. Future mothers are especially recommended aqua aerobics. So if you are prone to recurring infections, choose a pool with ozonated water.
Do not use depilatory creams during pregnancy as they irritate the skin a lot
Pregnant skin is more sensitive, but there is no ban on using hair removal creams. Every cosmetic of this type has a warning to try it on a small fragment of the skin first. However, you should not go to the office for waxing - it is a painful procedure, and therefore stressful (the effects of stress the child feels the same as you). Also, give up laser hair removal.
Do not use a photocopier or a microwave oven as waves can cause birth defects in children
Nobody proved it. You can use these devices, but you can never be too careful. So make sure they are in working order and do not stand by the stove while it is in use.
Do not remove the navel ring, because it is easy to get infected
The belly button ring during pregnancy must be removed before the belly grows, i.e. up to 4-5 months. When the belly is large, the belly button will stick out and the earring will catch on your clothes. By taking off your blouse, you can accidentally tear it out and the trouble is ready.
Do not wear seat belts in the car as you may damage the fetal bladder
Well fastened seat belts do not harm your child. According to the road traffic law, a woman with a visible belly is not required to wear a seat belt, but it is better to do so because they protect two people: you and the baby. The belts must be carefully adjusted to the height of the passenger. When fastening them, remember that the lower part should be under the belly.
Don't drink chamomile as it causes premature labor
Chamomile is even recommended because its infusion has an antiseptic and strengthening effect on the digestive system. It's worth drinking two or threetimes a week.
Do not use bronzing creams when pregnant, because the baby will have a dark complexion
This is not even a myth anymore, but a superstition. The substances contained in bronzing cosmetics are retained in the upper layers of the mum's epidermis and are not able to penetrate further. They have no influence on the baby's complexion. Before you apply a tanning lotion, try it on a scrap of skin to make sure it doesn't cause any sensitization.
Do not take a bath as it may result in miscarriage
Not true. You can bathe during the entire pregnancy, but only in warm (not hot!) Water (the optimal temperature is 36 degrees C). Hot water dilates blood vessels, which can lead to bleeding and even detachment of the placenta. While bathing, especially in the third trimester of pregnancy, better not to shut yourself up in the bathroom - if you feel weak, you will need help from someone from your family.
Pregnant vegetarians should start eating meat
No, because a well-composed vegetarian or even vegan diet poses no threat to a child. However, doctors advise against pregnant women not to follow a raw food diet (which consists in eating only fresh vegetables and fruit), as well as a macrobiotic diet (which only consumes fresh plant sprouts).
