Test of Multiple Measurement of Vigilance (MWT) - how to prepare

On the day of the test, you should give up caffeine (e.g. coffee, tea, coca-cola) and other stimulants, as well as nicotine. In addition, the patient should be comfortably dressed.

Test of Multiple Measurement of Vigilance (MWT) - what is it?

The test consists of four 40-minute tests that are performed every 2 hours. During them, the patient sits in a comfortable armchair, in a darkened and quiet room with a moderate temperature. The patient cannot do anything except sitting - read, listen to music, etc.

During each test, electrodes are attached to the patient's head, chin and around the eyes to record the bioelectrical activity of the brain and eye movements. If the patient falls asleep during the test, he will wake up 90 seconds after falling asleep and the test will end.

After the test is completed, a 2-hour break begins, during which the patient can watch TV, read, listen to music, etc., but cannot take a nap. He also cannot go outside of the clinic where the examination is taking place.

The first of four tests can be started around 2-3 hours after getting out of bed. It is recommended to eat a light breakfast about an hour before the start of the first test. Lunch can be eaten after the end of the second test.
