Sexual disorders are pathological deviations related to the human sexual sphere. Sexual dysfunction is divided into paraphilias, gender identity disorders and sexual dysfunctions. Symptoms of the course of a given disorder usually relate to the mental sphere, but sometimes they also have a biological or physiological basis. If you suspect any sexual deviation that makes life difficult or causes pain to a sick person or loved ones, you should immediately see a sexologist. Find out about the types of sexual deviations and find out about treatment for sexual disorders.

Sexual dysfunction can have different origins and course characteristics. According to the main classification of sexual disorders, three types can be distinguished: gender identity disorders, sexual preference disorders (paraphilias) and sexual dysfunctions. According to research, almost half of the population has symptoms of sexual dysfunction and disorders (43% of women and 46% of men).

The reasons for this state of affairs may have various grounds: physiological, social, cultural, psychological or psychosomatic. Sexual disorders are treated with the use of pharmacological agents and sexological, psychological and even psychiatric therapies.

Sexual dysfunction is an increasingly common problem both among women and men and should not be underestimated, but as soon as possible to seek help from a specialist.

Untreated sexual disorders and dysfunctions can make the life of a sick person and their loved ones much more difficult, as well as lead to the development of serious mental and even physical diseases.

Sexual dysfunction - types

Sexual dysfunction can be divided into three main types. Among them, it is worth mentioning the most common ones:

1. Gender identity disorders

The basic and main gender identity disorder is transsexualism. It is a disorder in the course of which gender identity is inconsistent with morphological sex. As a result, we have a strong desire (lasting for at least 2 years) to change the current gender to the opposite one. The causes of this disorder are of various origins: genetic, neurological, environmental, endocrine, and both sexes. To bring about consistency between mental and physical identification, a sex reassignment operation is performed.

2. Sexual preference disorders (paraphilias)

Disorders of sexual preferences, or paraphilias, were formerly known as perversion or perversion. Today they are treated as serious disorders that should not be taken lightly. Paraphilias are sexual deviations related to the course of sexual intercourse and related activities. A person suffering from a given type of paraphilia cannot achieve full sexual fulfillment without the occurrence of certain situations and rituals or without the appearance of specific objects during sexual intercourse.

The most common disorders of sexual preferences include:

  • BDSM - is the most complex type of sexual preference disorder because it can consist of many types. The main essence of BDSM is sexual dominance, where one person is the dominant or dominant (in this case, a woman) and the other plays the role of a submissive. This sexual disorder occurs through the punishment and reward method, and the partners must consent to it. BDSM is not only about the bed sphere, some partners also introduce them to everyday life.
  • Exhibitionism - is a disorder that involves public exposure of intimate places and masturbation, most often in front of a surprised and unexpected person.
  • Fetishism - feeling a strong desire for specific parts of the body, e.g. feet, breasts, buttocks or clothing, e.g. stockings, underwear or shoes.
  • Pedophilia - this is a pathological sexual deviation, which consists in feeling aroused by having intercourse with a child who has not yet entered puberty.
  • Sexual masochism (sadomasochism) - a person suffering from this type of disorder gets pleasure from experiencing pain during sexual intercourse.
  • Sexual sadism - is physical arousal obtained by causing another person physical and mental pain and suffering.
  • Voyeurism - is a sexual dysfunction where you get sexual fulfillment by watching a naked person or people having sex without realizing they are being voyed.
  • Trans-investment fetishism - disguises a heterosexual person as a representative of the opposite sex.

3. Sexual Dysfunctions

Sexual dysfunctions affect more and more people and are currently the most popular type of disordersexual. Sexual dysfunctions can have various symptoms and are usually both physiological and psychological in origin. This type of sexual dysfunction is the inappropriate course of sexual responses.

The most common dysfunctions include:

  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence) - is the inability to achieve a full erection or a problem with maintaining it. This dysfunction has three degrees of course: mild (persistent), moderate (occur from time to time), and severe (characterized by persistent erectile dysfunction).
  • Hypolibidemia - colloquially known as sexual frigidity. It consists in the lack of sexual needs in the phase of arousal and desire.
  • Anorgasmia - This is the physical inability to reach orgasm, despite feeling sexually attracted to it.
  • Premature ejaculation - statistics show that as many as 37% of men suffer from premature ejaculation. This disorder is based on reaching arousal and orgasm too quickly against the will of the man.
  • Vaginismus - is an unpleasant ailment among women, which consists in involuntary contractions of the vagina (leading to its tightening), which make sexual intercourse impossible. Vaginismus can be both somatic and psychological.
  • Dyspareunia - it is about feeling pain during sexual intercourse, which can have many different sources. Dyspareunie can most often be caused by infectious, postpartum, psychogenic, menopausal and contraceptive factors.

Sexual dysfunction - causes

Sexual dysfunction can have a number of different causes, including three main sources:

1. Biological factors
Biological factors that influence the development of sexual disorders are most often diseases and addictions. Numerous studies have shown that diseases such as stroke, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and ischemic heart disease can have a significant impact on the development of sexual dysfunction in both men and women. Addiction is another important factor in causing sexual deviation. Stimulants that favor the development of such disorders as premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, hypolibidemia or numerous sexual preference disorders are primarily drugs, alcohol and cigarettes.

2. Mental factors
Among patients suffering from sexual dysfunction, mental problems coexisting with a given type of sexual dysfunction are often found. People who go to a sexologist with their problems often report difficult childhood, living in poverty and sexual abuse inchildhood, mental and physical abuse, as well as lack of acceptance, and anxiety and complexes. It also happens that in adulthood the patient suffers from an unsuccessful relationship in which he is used and not accepted, which has a devastating effect on his mental he alth.

3. Socio-Cultural Factors
Nowadays, where access to pornography is available for everyone, more and more young people have problems with sexual dysfunction. This is due to the fact that sexuality created in pornographic films or in the mass media often differs from reality. Then, during sex with a partner in real life, sexual dissonance and failure can often develop, developing all kinds of deviations and deviations. Other important social and cultural factors influencing our sexuality are stereotypes about sexual roles in a relationship and religion.

Sexual dysfunction treatment

Sexual dysfunction is treated according to the severity and degree of its occurrence. Sexologists, psychologists and psychiatrists deal with treatment of sexual disorders. How they guide a person depends on the underlying cause of the patient's sexual dysfunction or disorder.

In order to discover the cause, psychological therapies and tests are used, during which the doctor looks for the source of a given deviation and selects appropriate pharmacological agents, if necessary. When it turns out that sexual dysfunction is mainly physiological, the patient is referred, for example, to a gynecologist or urologist.

If you feel that you are suffering from a sexual problem, you should see a doctor as soon as possible, who will skilfully diagnose and start appropriate treatment.
